I'm much better at the article contests than I am at this. I really wish I could participate but I'm horrible at it - utterly clueless.

Nonsense! You have a clue: "Flowing smart about quantity (9)"
It's meaning nothing to me either today, but it's a clue!

They are easy once you learn the rules. You can disassemble the sentence clue into a set of instructions.
Flowing (smart about quantity) (9)
The word 'about' here is a container indicator[^]. The clue becomes:
Find a synonym for 'Flowing' by wrapping a synonym of 'smart'[^] around a synonym for 'quantity'[^].
Streaming is a synonym for the word 'flowing'. The solution would be to wrap 'sting'[^] around the word 'ream'[^].
I guess if you have enough practice then you could speak an aesopian language[^] with others that very few could understand.

And YAUT !!!

Oh well,
I didn't want to post the solution. But in the past clearly explaining how to solve them has attracted new players. Was hoping to get the witch onboard.

I'm sure it wouldn't take him long to get the hang of them - he's made a few comments regarding the CCC lately so he's clearly interested

You just need to learn the basic formula for them, Randor has given you one example but there are many more - come on in

Someone posted the Wikipedia link to “Cryptic Crossword” earlier. That helps.
I was trying to wrap SMART around some 4 letter synonym for QUANTITY. Fail!😞

Since on the one hand I have a hard time enjoying Netflix or Disney plus (apart from the occasional once in 6 month show) and since, on the other hand, I watch a lot of Youtube and many of my favorite independent media youtubers keep complaining about the algorithm and advertise Curiosity Stream + Nebula package instead. I finally made the jump.
My first surprise. This is $15... a year! Neat! Should have done it earlier!

Do you also find time to work?

Damn, I am becoming a celebrity now! Shoo shoo... you are killing my anonymity!!

And also.. we got 6 weeks holidays!
|
|

|

No, I think you mean a whole year for three lines of code...
One exception applies: the sad transition from 2k to the show.

I see you and a few others have made a new friend here in the Lounge.

Nah, I tried work, it's not for me, too tiring!
In fact, it could be I found the coolest job in Australia, prestigious multi national, well paid, work from home and... 6 weeks holiday!
I learnt that "our" turn over rate is about 9% (per year?) which is a good rate for the industry, apparently...

No Disney+ ? May I please inquire are you not interested in "The Mandalorian" or "The Book of Bobba Fet" - Cheerio
|
|
|
|
|
Mmmm... I have to confess, I also have Disney+ too... I did binge watch a few things... The Mandalorian ain't it.. I tried, and thought I can't exactly remember why I stopped, I suspect the shouting contrast between spaceship that can cross the galaxy in a blink, blaster weapon and people that lives in worse than medieval condition or huge terrifying (energetic) monster living in place without any food hurt my sense of realism too much to continue...
And also... Apart from Youtube documentary I found it difficult to enjoy many shows, it's a bummer...

I've only watched YouTube for the past 18 months or so. Rught now, I am binge watching ever show on woodworking I can find. Before that it was TimeTeam with Tony Robinson. Who knows what will be next.
The commercials don't bother me, I just fast forward through them.

yeah.. I have the same.. I tried to watch the like of Disney+/Netflix but I rarely hook on something, whereas there is always something interesting on Youtube.
But lately the adds have become long and terrible. Like this Gaia sh*t. And I have to get up from my couch (watching youtube on the couch) a bit too much for my liking! ok, ok, that sounded lazy.. perhaps I am...

Belated thanks for that. Had never heard of it, here under my rock.
