An oldie but I like it
Upper class rejecting two prizes (3,6)

I know the answer, but I can't work out why "rejecting two prizes" - even back in 2006 I had no idea why...

Not sure that would be fair - I remember the answer from the first time I saw it, and I posted one this week anyway!

What is the solution?
Gin reject?
Please explain. Knowledgeable people see to be having a conversation among themselves, rejecting the common public.

Top drawer - reverse both of the words
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!" - Hunter S Thompson - RIP

Is rejecting a reversal indicator?

Yes

Still somewhat baffled. Don't understand the role of the word "rejecting" and "two prizes" seems very specific to refer to the "pot" - maybe "all prizes"???
|
|

Rejecting is a reversal indicator, so you have Pot and Reward for prizes
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!" - Hunter S Thompson - RIP

Here's my take on it:
Two synonyms of "prize" are POT and REWARD.
Rejecting means to reverse their spellings to yield: TOP and DRAWER.
Upper class can be a defined as TOP DRAWER.
(Especially by the upper class.)
Rejecting meaning to reverse was news to me too.

The funny thing is back in high school I took a speed reading class. Half the class time was practicing faster reading and comprehension. The other half was learning Greek and Latin roots, suffixes and prefixes to be able to break words down into their meanings. It was that part of the class that was the most help to me in university and actually still is - when I apply it. When I read your reply I just went DOH! It's so easy to get into a rut. Gotta step outside that box for the CCC.

The answer came to me straight away, but I could not work out why until your clue.
