You have to pay the UK TV licence fee even if you don't actually switch on the TV so that is the same kind of idea.
However, when I consider what I pay for cable over here in the US and get a 1,000 channels of crap with adverts every 5 minutes the licence fee for the BBC seem super cheap and totally worth it - I miss it terribly.
- I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

You just lost as many man points by admitting you care about boyfriend points though.

I've never watched this show.
I guess I'm going to have to watch it if I'm going to hang out around here.

It is obviously a huge cultural touchstone.
Should a person start with first episode?

You'd be extremely lucky if you could - the BBC destroyed many of the early episodes back in the 60s and 70s when they were recycling tape.

If one cared too, the entire series is available on various torrents.
My personal take is that the earlier stories were far better. Special effects sucked, but the stores and characters were much better. The new stories, in my opinion, are too faced paced and short, targeting the limited attention span of the current generation.
The general (albeit not universal) opinion is that the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) is the best.

When I posted this goto statement[^] comment I didn't think it would grow as such. I think I touched a deeply controversial topic in the development world.
I then suggested on CodeProject to vote regarding GOTO and they replied on me with this old vote[^]

So you got told to GOTO the old vote?

This happens all the time... Goto here[^] please.

My first program had a goto statement in it:

While it has its uses in procedural languages, it rarely has one in a modern OO language. Its use is discouraged simply because it makes it hard to follow the programs' flow, often resulting in what is known as spaghetti-code. A simple mind would summon that up as "goto is bad". The best practice nowadays would be ravioli-code.
