I have a sat decoder with a built in hdd that can record programs.
I've checked the recordings and they're saved as .ts or transportstreams, decoded with h264.
Now I just need a simple editor that's able to crop away the start and the beginning of the videos, preferably without recoding them, and save them as Mpeg2 files so that I can load up my wifes iPad with children movies.
Any suggestions?
PS.
This is fully legal where I live as long as I don't share them outside the family.

I personally use FreeMake video converter. Advantages: It works OOTB.

Hadn't met that one before, so I downloaded it - very naughty installer! First run of the app (from the "launch" installer option) immediately closed both Chrome and Firefox without any "please" or confirmation at all.
Twice. Once while I was writing this.
Good thing I wasn't in the middle of a long download or upload...

I don't remember it closing my browsers during installation. Probably something has changed. But I wouldn't care about it that much. I'm using Opera a browser that can resume downloads. But the important part about video converting software is video conversion for me. Feel free to hate this software. I'll be using it nevertheless.

I'd give Freemake another vote, but take a look here[^], first. You might find something that fits your requirements/tastes/preferences better.

I would like to know if there is a good description of the Microsoft Embedded platforms around is CE6.0 the same as Windows Embedded 6.0
what pray tell are the difference between Pro & Standard, I look on the M$ website and wasted a good half hour there!

had to parse your post a bit. I've worked with CE for 8 years now. One of the things I had to get used to was Microsoft renaming everything (they got all whacko about embedded support). To my knowledge, yes CE 6.0 is the same as Windows Embedded 6.0 - code wise. I'm sure there is some marketing type that will jump me.

Tell the truth I kinda forgot I posted that. Thanks!! (having re-read my post, it was a little odd ). It's nice to see someone else thinks M$ got weird with the embedded stuff naming

They *really* lost their way.. especially with the development tools.. You could almost see the political infighting. They have religion now, but so much damage has been done.

My previous flirtation with Embedded Windows ended rather abruptly when I couldn't alter the registry of the '104s because some didn't want to pay the licence fee and it went no further. I found the whole thing odd like you had a level of control but the system would wander off at times and do something while stacking your commands which could lead to a mess

I had a returned email.
Couldn't be delivered as the address was not recognised.
I looked at the IP from the person who typed it in (It was sent as a form via a website).
On typing in the IP I was taken to a Belkin Router set up page.
It was asking for a password.
I typed in the surname of the person and behold!
Full access to change settings or anything else I wanted for that matter.
Now, being a good person, I did nothing.
I shall attempt to contact them directly and explain why they should make their password more difficult to guess.
If I can get it on the very first attempt, then so can other people.
