I read your reply and understood what you were saying.
Not to take away from their awesome presence.
Have you ever been for a ride on an elephant? There are not a lot of things like it that I have ever experienced.

When I were a wee nipper we went to London zoo and rode an elephant and watched the monkeys have tea. It was very cruel, really.

I have seen elephants abused in Bangkok, but these elephants in the province seem to be treated better.
At least they look happier. The one I saw this morning eating branches from a tree seemed happy. (S)he was at least able to eat natural food, and I have seen them rip bananas and leaves off my banana trees.
Then again I don't know what the elephant was thinking.

The problem with bananas is that after you peel 'em and throw away the bone there's nothing left to eat!

I was feeding bananas to an elephant somewhere in Asia by peeling a banana off the bunch and giving it to her. All I managed to do was piss her of, she eventually reach out an snaffled the bunch. Greedy bitch, they cost me a dollar.
Wait till you meet the african elephant, they make the asian/indian look puny. I'm 6'3 and I have a photo of me standing upright UNDER the head of a bull, amazing.

They get rather impatient when you tease them with a single banana at a time.

Yes I have seen African elephants and they are larger. Although I did see a large bull yesterday that made the other elephants look small by comparison.

Brave man. I never got that close to an African elephant. They were not as well mannered as the Asian variety.
