"She then cross-checked her findings with Shaw’s study of bone rigidity among modern Cambridge undergraduates"
Not exactly a representative sample. I suspect she'd have gotten rather different results if her modern sample set consisted of, say, construction workers, or infantry soldiers.

I would like to see a bit more science on that versus what was cited.
Although hunter-gathering is, of course, more intensely physical the depravations are also much more severe. Just the impact of ongoing adequate nutrition in childhood is a significant factor. One need do nothing more than look at parts of the world with inadequate nutrition to wonder about the validity of such sweeping statements.

What an adventure! 6910 miles, 12 states and ~2.5K photos!

I'll post a flickr link when I start processing, it's going to take a while.

Glad to have you back, Mike - I will do some day tours in order to get used to my army boots...
I will never again mention that Dalek Dave was the poster of the One Millionth Lounge Post, nor that it was complete drivel.

I already had them on for some time and found them quite comfortable - Next is probably a tour up to the Fronalpstock[^], I can basically walk out the door and up the mountain[^]

Hi,
I want to buy a new laptop for .Net Programming and I'm trying to figure out what's the best for my case.
What's your laptop model and configuration are you using and if you would change, what laptop and configuration would you have?
Maybe I get the Dell XPS 13 with a i7 4500U / 8Gb RAM 1600 Mhz / 256Gb SSD, what you think?
Are you looking to do ASP.NET/ASP MVC programming or are you looking towards WPF development?
Mostly web projects using .Net MVC, but I'll do almost everything, WPF too. Windows Services. etc...
The configuration you're after seems reasonable then.

If you can, upgrade to 16G and a 512 SSD. That will probably give you 7 years of service.
If you want a small footprint (but will always use a large monitor and full-size keyboard and mouse), I'd recommend going with a Brix Pro[^] instead of a laptop.

Having fixed the button on my left keypad button ultrabook a couple of weeks ago I can afford to wait for a little bit longer before committing. I had originally planned to get a Zenbook UX301, but the spec I wanted appeared to be vapourware and I lost interest in it.
Scott Hanselman mentioned the X1 in one of his presentations a couple of weeks ago and he appeared to be impressed with it.

I'm hoping I never have to buy another new computer.

Is that because the vast array of choice and speed that it all changes make it so damn difficult to pick one!
