Maybe a heavier sentence? Just to make sure that teens from everywhere may not think that killing their own kid (just because they're not responsible to have one) isn't a bad idea.
Tsk, why those kind of people cannot understand what "responsible actions" mean?

If they understood "responsible actions" the pregnancy would never have happened...
And anyway: the US does not mess about with sentences already. When they want you locked up, they start with "life" and add on 50 years for each victim!

My point exactly.
OriginalGriff wrote: they start with "life" and add on 50 years for each victim!
Now I've got confused. So you're saying about "life" is they take the "life" then the "add 50 years" part means, they'll store the lifeless body for 50 years?!

It basically means "even if you do behave yourself, and get eligible for parole, you won't get it until well and truly after you are dead"

Well said.
Is it synonymous to "Sorry, parole doesn't exist." or "Error 404: Parole Not Found"?

Life sentences, in general, does not mean that one will be locked up until he dies. They are generally between 12 to 50 years depending on the country you are in.
Now, in some countries, if one is found guilty for multiple crimes and say, is jailed for 10 years for crime one and 20 years for crime 2, both duration are simultaneous. So, effectively, it is 20 years of jail. Also, I believe in some places, jail day is 12 hours and not 24. In other places, it will be 30 calendar years of jail.
In US, I believe each state has there own law so not sure what life would mean where.

In a lot of the US there are Life Means Life sentences handed out for particularly reprehensible scumbags to make sure they'll only ever leave prison in a box.
They're not, AFAIK, concentrated in any particular region either; having support both from the law and order means harsher sentences group to the right and anti-capital punishment groups on the left who want to keep juries from thinking if they don't vote for death the convict might eventually be let out.

What's really sad is that they're regarded as under influence (title seems to indicate this, didn't read the article). So they couldn't help themselves ...
On the other hand, it might be cruel to say this, but the kids were probably better off in this case.

Not really - hopefully they were free of birth defects caused by the mother's Meth use during the pregnancy, but there are always couples ready to adopt.

How long does that take? In real life, these kids go from foster home to orphanage to child care institutions and every step of the way they're introduced into the world of their mother, with drug abuse, violence, ... If they are lucky enough to be adopted by loving parents how fast will that be? In Belgium adoption procedures can take 2 - 10 years !

AFAIK infant adoption in the US is reasonably fast; it's older kids that tend to get stuck in and ground up by the system because, unfortunately, most people really want babies not older kids.

I have a hosting provider, which I use mostly for:
- 1. email (it has an email box), always keep the same email. even some times have no internet provider (travelling) yet still have that email box
- 2. website (not that I do much with it) but there is my anemic blog and website (which doesn't have much)
Now a friend say why don't you use Azure (a good rationale is that I have an MSDN account from my company)
what I am worried about:
-1. my web host provider use a flat $10/month rate. What about Azure?! (with a database!)
-2. what about my mail box?

The MSDN account gives you some credits[^], so that might make things cheaper (or free).
As for email, I'm supposing they'd push you towards Office365, which would more than likely pop over your $10/month.

mm.. I might have to investigate this Office365 thing! thanks for the tip!
ad no idea it could apply to email as well!
|
|
|
|

Just grab Office 2013 off your MSDN instead
|
|
|
|
|
err... I need a SMTP server and mailbox, office does nothing for that!
On the other hand, he seemed to implied that Office365/Outlook on he web will!
Anyhow, also asked on MSDN forum, apparently there is some mail solution for azure!

|

In that case Office 365 won't help either its the licence thats different.
You can get an SMTP server with IIS or there are a multitude of other free ones. You could also run Exchange if you need that level of functionality.
Microsoft also host cloud based Exchange servers basically the same as with Office 365/2013 but with a private server - that presumably is the mail solution for Azure you mention.

mm... something to investigate! thanks!

If you have an MSDN account you probably also get free Office365 credits too. I have the Microsoft Action Pack Subscription (poor man's MSDN) and I get £65/month of free Azure credits (for dev use only, but that's cool) and five free Office365 licenses. Outlook365 is great; I ditched GMail to use Office365 instead.
