I just managed to eat a bowl of granola, and I think it's going to stay down - which would be nice.
Hopefully I'll be back to normal tomorrow or the next day.

Nice clue! And I did manage to solve it - though late. And learn something new. It was one of those where I happened upon the solution and knew it was the answer immediately upon seeing the word.
Ah well, I wouldn't have been able to set tomorrow's anyway - turkey day tomorrow in the US.

Thank you I thought it was possibly a badly written clue

Not at all. It took me a little under 10 minutes. Bouquet came to mind immediately but it didn't fit the clue. A quick Google for synonyms and I saw the solution. I was surprised someone else didn't solve it. But, it is a pretty big travel day here in the US and with Thanksgiving tomorrow us 'mercans may have given today's a pass.

As my finger hovers over the Enter key I think this could be a bad idea. Hmmmmm.
Worst command ever? Worse than laying on the up-arrow key for a bit and blindly pressing Enter?
I might never do that again!

Is your computer overheating, by any chance? This could be due to bad fans, dust, etc. One thing I would try before replacing the computer is to clean it out using compressed air.
[for a desktop]
Open the case, and spray the compressed air everywhere, especially over the blades of any fans, from a distance of at least 10cm. If you see condensation appearing on the parts that you are cleaning - increase the spraying distance!
[for a portable]
Opening and cleaning a portable, with its tightly packed components, is not a task for a novice. If you are one, I would suggest taking it to your local repair shop, and asking them to give it a cleaning. If you are not a novice, follow the instructions for a desktop, but pay particular attention to any air filters in the portable's case.
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

Get a Linux distribution that can run off the installation media. Boot from it, let it run for a day (or find it some task to keep the CPU/RAM/disk busy). If it remains stable after a day, the hardware is probably fine. And in that case, the quickest fix might be to repave.

I knew it was bound to happen, I just suck at those things.
I tried several things yesterday to recover.
I've not found the appropriate magical incantations to bring it back to life.
I'll remove everything (gpu, cpu... )later today and start again.
it'a gigabyte board, the q-flash should work to bring is alive. (maybe????)
Anyway sucks big time.

The one time you can brick your motherboard is when flashing the BIOS. The problem is that the chip is soldered to the board. Living in the embedded world, we are very, very careful when updating boot loaders (sort of like a BIOS). If we fail, we have to get out the hardware and connect to diagnostic ports.

Why did you update your bios if you suck at these things?

Most (all?) motherboards don't support the new 13th generation intel CPU.
From what I could see from various sources, it should be a simple process if you're not me.

That is the solution then - just stop being you while flashing a bios!

is there any way to restore everything? I am curious to learn from your updating BIOS.
diligent hands rule....

IIRC some newer boards have a function where they can run a BIOS flash utility if plugged into a specific port stored in ROM where it can't be taken out by a normal BIOS update.

it should.
my gigabyte board has q-flash it allows to update the motherboard without any hardware installed.
you plug in a usb key with the bios file, press a button and the bios should update with some led flashing.
In my case it started working and I probably (surely) interrupted it before it was complete ( misread the led indicator)
Now when I try updating, nothing happens.

I think the code for updating the BIOS is also part of the BIOS, so if your BIOS won't run, then no updating.
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.
