For anyone who games or otherwise likes a hot rod PC.
Has anyone run one of these intel 13th gen monsters? At least a performance variant?
I'm hearing the high end ones are veritable furnaces and am told you better at least have AIO liquid cooling for them or forget it. I'm also told the motherboards run hot.
The problem is I've got a MicroATX case with a small cube form factor, and I love it and don't want to give it up.
Does anyone know what my best bet is for single core performance I can run on an air cooled system?
For reference I'm on a Thermaltake Lvl 20 open air chassis
These run 181watts instead of 250 so maybe this monster?

Be careful with the microATX cases: I have one which unusually has the PSU at the bottom.
On my MB, the only slot the graphics card will fit in is right above that, so there it little space between the PSU (which gets warm) and the GPU fans (which also get warm).
I need to run a fan speed app for anything intensive to run the GPU at full airflow or something flakes out and crashes. Could be GPU, could be memory, could be CPU, could be PSU: I suspect it's the two heat sources pumping warm air at each other until it just builds up too much. My next case will probably be full height for just that reason.
You need to look at where heat producing components will sit in relation to each other and the case architecture if you can't use liquid cooling to move to a "safe place".

Thanks. At least with my current mobo and the one I am looking at (ASUS/ROG) the main GPU slot is at the opposite end of the board as the CPU. The PSU sits underneath the CPU, divided by a metal shelf.
This machine does not generate too much heat. It's well cooled in fact so far. It's a Ryzen 7 4750G so it's a bit of a hungry monster. That's why i was looking at that i5, which seems to run cooler baseline, but maybe hotter at full bore.
Thermaltake is really good about their designs in terms of airflow and such. Their cases are very well engineered. That's why I give them my money.

I'm also looking at the i5-13600. (knowing me, I'll probably get the 12600 instead, depending on the $$$)
I will probably go with a beefy noctua chromax heatsink.
I don't care for water cooling.

I'm gaming with 11 gen fitted in MicroATX case with air cooling - no issues. Just put the biggest fan that fits the case, and you will be okay. Actually, the GPU is usually more energy consuming/heat emitting. Something else to consider - the power supply. The small form factor power supplies are often under 500W, and you can hit a bottleneck there (assuming you have a discrete GPU). I would also stay away from i9.

I have a 1000watt PSU. I'm not worried about that unless I got an i9, which I was eyeballing but decided against.
I have a 2080ti GPU

Water in Forbes, where I was working, is a couple of feet down from the peak of Thursday. Town is cut in half now, not thirds. (The CBD "island" is now connected to the south bank.)
There is a LOT of water making its way downstream, well overland really, and the towns downstream are bracing for it.
Heading home today.
Why does the Rural Fire Service get involved in floods?
Apart from peoplepower, we have incident management infrastructure, and trucks which (a) can drive through two or three feet of water and (b) have a very large pump.
Cheers,
Peter

The Butterfly Effect - Worlds On Fire[^]
Back after being away for a week!
The Butterfly Effect recently released a new album, IV (yes, it's their fourth album).
I know them from their previous album from 2008, 14 years ago!
They're obviously not in any rush
Anyway, despite the quality, it's not quite my cup of tea, but I do like the first song from that previous album.
It reminds me of Muse a bit.
So that's what I've been listening to, instead of the new album (but you should give it a try if you like this one)
