Having paid just over $10 a month for 100Gb ADSL2+ Internet access for a year, we finally got told the party was over and we'd be getting billed the correct amount from now on - $115 a month.
Figured I would bite the bullet and upgrade to 200Gb which was going to cost me $130 a month (incidentally the $115 was $15 more than it would cost if I took out a new plan for 100Gb)
Anyway, called up and explained what I wanted to do - they wanted me to sign a new 12 month contract (I'm way out of my existing contract).
So instead, I looked around, and found a 500Gb plan for about $80 - same exchange, same line, same speed.
So instead of having my continued income they get nothing.
Why don't they learn?

I take it the Gb numbers are the data allowance and not transfer speed! Data allowances are usually quoted in GB not Gb (Byte not bit).
So which is it?

|
|
|

Yeah - you got me! It's GB data allowance (both ways counted)
Funny - I get really annoyed when other people are lazy and get it wrong - then find myself doing it.

Same reason why companies let their experienced people walk out the door and hire new people for 20% more and lose all of the domain knowledge. They are counting on your "loyalty". Muahahahahaha

When I choose the packet I actually choose the speed only - no such thing allowance here (I think you may hit them hard with some extreme download size but for most of us it never comes).
I pay some $25 for the internet at 5Mbs...

I can choose to pay twice the prize and get 15 Mbs, or pay even more and get more. However I found that 5 is enought for me at homk. At the office we have VIP...

I'm paying $79.98 per month, get unlimited ADSL (downloaded 1.3TB the first month to see if I get cut off) the phone line rental and unlimited calls to Australian landline and mobile number. Inludes those sh*tty 13 numbers that they always charge for.

Not bad - not bad at all! Unfortunately in our neck of the woods there are only a very few companies offering ADSL at all - the last time I had checked to find alternatives to Telstra the only other companies were actually more expensive!
Also we don't use the home phone - so paying line rental is just a necessary evil in order to have ADSL - we use the mobiles for everything.
Our location is deemed 'regional' so we pay $50 instead of $30 for the broadband (500Gb) - unlimited would be $10 more a month and for another $10 unlimited calls
As the aim was to keep prices down, and we'd previously been using just over 100Gb a month, I figured 500Gb would keep us going as long as the Boy doesn't watch too much YouTube!

Yeah, I hear you about being regional... I pay $70/month for ADSL2+ unlimited data, but the equivalent metro plan is only $40 per month... gah!!

I suppose it is not really much different to certains freaks of the human world forcing themselves on animals.
There is probably a predatory element or rogue individuals in every species.
Which foil wrapper are you reffering to, the penguin wrapper or the condom (or both) ?

I was recalling the "why don't polar bears eat penguins" joke
Which I loved as a kid, because if someone answered "because they can't get the wrapper off" I could respond with "No! Because they live in different hemispheres"
And vice versa
I was an annoying kid.

So, there are several settings one can select:
1) Stay away from my machine you $itch!
2) Trust but verify. Show me what you think you want to do...
3) Hey baby, have your way with me, I trust you'll do the right thing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I normally run with item 2, my kids, because I simply don't have the time to keep up with their machines, run with item 3. But really, I'm leaning more to level 1. I've had some serious woes of late which seem to be video drivers... seem to be. How many of you had a good machine messed up by updates? I don't have any real evidence, nor do I have the time to elephant around with updates.
just got my little icon alert - more updates are waiting my approval.

I do (2) and (3).
On my host machine I do (2) and my VMs are running with (3)...
I never had a serious issue to make me change this...

Option 2 (decide which to install and when to download), because in the past I've been in the middle of something extremely important -- watching Scrubs on Netflix -- when all of a sudden Microsoft is cramming updates down the pipe. Really annoying.
