Avijnata wrote: tests for pilots to assess their mental state before each flight. Great, that would add another two hours waiting about before each flight. Pilots do have regular medical tests for both physical and mental health, but doing it before each flight would be totally impractical.

That was just one (impractical) solution
There may be other ways, wouldn't they?

They'll probably make it mandatory to have 2 people in the cockpit at all times. At the moment it's not, though some airlines do practice this.

I was just reading that some airlines keep crowbars or axes outside the cockpit to get in during an emergency. Kind of seems to negate the locking doors to keep terrorists out in that case.
I think - unfortunately - that flight is always going to be a (low) risk activity. If you don't accept the risks then don't fly (I'm guessing that most people don't really consider the risks).

Get three burly guys and charge the door. Its got to give, surely.

But then how do you keep three burly terrorists out? I think a solution for one scenario precludes the other.

It does, but if crow bars and axes can get in, then 340 kgs of meat doing 20 mph is too.

Findings are preliminary, although the evidence is pointing to suicide.
I don't know why you are in such a hurry to tell us bad news that we can find out on our own. Every news channel in the world is broadcasting this.

If we've reached the stage of airing wild conspiracy theories, I think it's time we finished our drinks and toddled off home.
Perhaps it was a failed abduction by aliens...
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

Before I toddle off, let me say in my own defense that I meant that in a sarcastic way because of the recent flap over his forum signature.

Yes, I'm aware of the flap. That is why I responded in a humourous manner.

Suicide is killing yourself.
What he did was not suicide.
It was a mass murder in which he also died.

Not necessarily.
I've no idea why he did this.
Terrorism is doing something (or threatening to do something) with the aim of making people afraid.
He has made lots of people afraid, but unless it turns out he has done it as part of some larger organisation then I don't see much point in being afraid of him anymore.
