How does MVP apply here? Most Valuable Player of what?

In the context of CP, I always understood it to mean "Most Valuable Professional".
We get all kinds here, from beginners to those with decades of experience, so giving them a single title (as in "Programmer") would be worse than inaccurate, it would be futile.

Thanks, I missed the link at the bottom of original post. DOH

As Daniel says, it's "Most Valuable Professional" - but there are variations within that: Most Valuable Expert (MVE) for answering questions, and Most Valuable Author (MVA) for writing articles. There may be others, but those are the two I know of.

Maybe start thinking about how to win it tomorrow - no rush, after all.

This. It came unexpected but much appreciated!

Well done! You can add that to your collection of Article medals - keep up the good work.

Thx. Not quite sure why the email mentioned MVE when my contributions are primarily articles and not forum messages, but since it's all under the MVP umbrella I suppose it doesn't really matter.

The hamsters were probably still lagered up from the night before when they wrote 'em.
I got MVE and MVA this year, and my home page shows two MVP awards - I've mentioned it to Chris so he'll probably fix it when Canada wakes up for the day.

I got an MVE too, when if anything I would have thought MVP for my article content, which is far more prolific.
I've only answered a few things in Q&A. I'm not as active on that part of the site as I probably should be. So I was surprised by receiving that award.

My guess is that there was an error there, but honestly it doesn't really matter to me as both of them are under the MVP umbrella and arguable, most people who write articles that are good enough to be rewarded, are experts.

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?

- year 1, feature request, can you make a screen that show this and that?
- year 2, feature request, can you hide that when you show this?
- year 3, bug request, hey I noticed that that is hidden when this is shown, can you fix that?

Sounds familiar, we are also trying to move away from making "customized" versions of our software for every customer.

I thought there was money in doing that. Maybe you're too nice.

There is money in that sort of thing, but can you imagine the configuration management headaches?
A bug found in one branch must be ported to the other branches, where it must be tested and released. With any significant number of customizations, this quickly becomes a nightmare.

This, but replace "year" with "week", or sometimes "day".

Haha you're really unlucky, this is like criminally bad management!

Sounds painfully familiar. Used to work on such system. Quarter of century in development, 3-4 million ROC, bloated interface with latest addition of some insufferable outsourced parts. You change something and all the hell gets loose.
