I never upgrade.
I always run fresh installs. No matter whether it's the OS, Office or VS.
Tends to work much better that way.

So I take full control of my HDD.
No I don't, it can't enumerate all the folders.
Are you kidding?? Seriously?
Why would anyone want to "upgrade" to this steaming pile if exrecement??
I really don't see the fascination to rush to install Win10.
You know, you brought this on yourself. You HAD to know this sort of thing would happen..
If it's not broken, fix it until it is

Are you sure she is not the only one?

I finally updated my home machine to Windows 10. Everything went off without a hitch, even my applications and settings are intact.

We don't want that sort of talk around here.

That's what I thought to start with as well...
I'm still trying to get write access to my own files that persists past a re-boot.

Now, try and use it.

I did. OK, just for one day, but it looks fine to me so far. The start menu is back, thank heavens, though the jump list thingies seem to be missing. It warned me about the media center being uninstalled when upgrading, but since I had forgotten the thing existed in the first place, that made no difference to me.
The search box is nice. I like the notification bar, but it looks a little Mac-y. It's a wonder they (Apple) aren't making any noise over that. I suppose tablet mode is good (if I had a Windows tablet, but the only ones I've got are Aspirin)
I'm sure there will be plenty of things that will bug me, but that is to be expected since the UI is different. Since all our clients will eventually use it, I am definitely going to get a head start so I'll know what to expect.

That sounds dangerously similar to the "Look everyone, no hands..." words that have been uttered on many an occasion.

Upgrade to longer than I expected - however, things worked at the end.
