Looking to take credit card payment on a website. Too many horror stories about paypal to want to use them. Are there any good alternatives out there (knowing that this is a site of pedants) and can you tell me who they are? And then actually tell me the company names, perhaps with a link to their web site?
Thanks.

Horror stories about PayPal? Do tell!
I am not a number. I am a ... no, wait!

Well I hate to be a party popper but I think you'll find that all services have pretty much the same account limits and reserve requirements as PayPal. Amazon certainly does.

Yes avoid Paypal. What you link to happened to my Missus. They withhold the money - they even laughed at her once when she tried ringing them to get it back - you have to repeatedly threaten them with small claims or wait 6 months for them to release. If you have to use them take Nish's advice and move them money out regularly.

Almost all the bad stories I heard were to do with PayPal withholding funds. So a good safety measure would be to regularly move funds off PayPal as soon as they are there - but obviously this would be a major hassle.

There's Wepay.
Can't say if they're good or bad though.
I only know about them because the husband of one of my wifes friends worked for them. And now he works with payment solutions for Facebook. So I keep hearing how great they are as employer and why can't I get a job for them and so on, until my ears bleed.

I've used PayPal (only to pay, never to get paid) for over 10 years and I've never had a problem.
You'll find good experiences and bad experiences about every alternative we could possibly mention.
PayPal is one of the biggest (if not THE biggest), so yeah, most (bad) experiences will be about them.
Add to that that people always mention when something goes bad, but rarely mention when something goes as it should, and you might get a wrong picture about PayPal.
Anyway, I've just Googled for "paypal alternatives" and the only one I've heard of (from the top 3 site) is Google Wallet, but I've never actually seen it anywhere.
I'd just try PayPal for a while

A question on CP about a payment provider that isn't "How to integrate with <insert provider>. Please send me codes, it's urgent". I'm confused....

|
|
|
|
Please sooth your furrowed brow before your head asplodes with incredulity at my apparent cavalier attitude in asking a question that doesn't require urgent codez in the response.
That comes later...

At 5.9% + $.75 per order, I'll bet they're dead chuffed with you, too.

You're right. I should probably switch to PayPal, being that I already have a merchant account.
