If you know chords like A-C-D-C, you'd be fine

Nah, I never learned guitar... I'm a trumpeter. Way out of practice, though.

Trumpet is a nice instrument. What did you play before? reggae?

Nah... Big band, marching band, jazz... Jazz is the most fun, but I never could figure out how to improv.

That's nice! Jazz is cool. It's just hard to play it with guitar. I just can't play it. I'm into blues

Really? I'm way out of practice on the cornet, too. It's been years since I played one, even though I did and do love it.
We should start a band: Tarnished Brass

Brass? Pfft... Mine's silver (plated)... Really needs a shine and some dents smoothed out...

Years ago, I worked with a guy who admitted that, in his spare time, he made Raga. I was deeply impressed with his mastery of what is, let's face it, a deceptively complicated musical form, until it was pointed out that he had a speech impediment and what he was saying was that he made lager.

You're lucky to have worked with them. In our whole dev team, only 4 can.

How large is your team? Four's enough for a band.

I've played at programming and the guitar for forty years and know lots of other programmers who have done the same

Sorry not me. I do play the concertina - picked one up in a garage sale a very long time ago, got some books, and now I can almost make it sound good.

Hi, in my experience many of the programmers I've met at companies like Cricket, IDD, Adobe, WildTangent, play musical instruments ... but, those companies ... that "arena" of graphic/drawing software ... perhaps attract creative types (?).
I play guitar ... classical, and (attempt to play) some flamenco, but it's just a "private hobby." I like playing in alternate tunings like: E A D a c e

We try to make the latter into warnings or, better, errors. I play bass in a band. I also play piano, sax, flute, guitar and the occasional hammered dulcimer.

Been playing guitar since '79. Have a weekly jam with some friends and still play out occasionally.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

Sorry for the late reply, but I've been out of the office all week! I took piano lessons as a kid, but used to piss off the teacher by memorizing the pieces or just playing them by ear. I played keyboards in a top 40s garage band for a few years in the late '80s...long hair + ripped jeans = chicks! It was a fun time! Keyboards were my first love, but I always had an affinity for bass lines...then I heard Iron Maiden's 'Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner' and everything changed. I learned bass and played in clubs for another 4-5 years until I met a girl...and everything changed.
Nowadays, I have a 300W half stack, a 4-string Fender Prophecy III, and a 5-string Les Paul Standard (cheap model) in my home office. I also recently got a decent 88 key Yamaha digital piano that I MIDI into the PC to control a really cool synthesizer app. I have no desire to play with a group anymore, preferring to jam along with media player. My grandma left me a really nice Baldwin digital piano 10 years ago. I play it when the wife is away...it's in the living room and when she's home, the TV is on.
Favorite bands in no particular order:
Iron Maiden (Steve Harris is a god!)
Rush
Yes
Dream Theater
Spock's Beard (in the sig)
King's X (older stuff)
Rock On!

They stuck this to us yesterday[^]. At least as I'm going to almost certainly be one of the last out of the door as I'll be involved in the transition to Guadalajara at least I'll have until March. Some of my colleagues weren't so lucky and are not at their desks this morning as they are attending to their Garden.
