And it's risen by 30% this year - an extra £60!
So I look around to find out why and it turns out that's not bad - the average rise in the UK this year is 43%. Bloody glad I'm not still 17 ... they pay an average of £3,145 
I'm still going to shop around, but ... looks like it might be not too bad a price after all.

Yeah - I guess the increase in value due to the cost of EVs has helped push the cost up generally, even if you don't drive an EV (because I can't charge one anywhere near home).
I just tried a couple of the "insurance comparison" sites, and they couldn't get below the renewal price - the closest was £30 more!
I'm really, really glad I'm not 17 any more ...

Mine went up 40% about 5 months ago, and that's the average increase.

The old car we just kept about the same, I think an extra £10, but it is terrible.
Looking forward to the main car in the Autumn, I'm expecting an extra £200 at least.

For a laugh, I checked the group for Teslas - they start at 36 and go up to 50! Try buying an EV when you are 17 ...

I have an eighteen year old Toyota so it's group 13.

18 years ago I paid a bit under $1500/yr for my car insurance.
Today it's a bit under $1400/yr. It's the same car. It's 18 years old and now practically worthless. Never claimed anything.

Most people where I live have sold their diesel cars because of ULEZ
I have a 2.0 litre Honda CRV petrol and my premium for fully comprehensive is £394.54 thats with max NCD

We're just outside, but have to regularly go in, and our car wasn't compliant, but we were fortunate and able to afford to upgrade; not everyone was so lucky. Some of my friends have "modern classics" which they can't really afford to use regularly now.
Another one of my friends lives in the ULEZ. Paradoxically, his recent diesel is compliant, his wife's older petrol car wasn't.

I just got my notice yesterday (Virginia, USA). It went up at least 50% since last year.

interestingly, my son graduated from college last year. about 6 months ago he bought his first car with his own money. Insurance for said car was quite a bit more than he was ready for. He could afford it but after a couple months it went up again. So he started shopping around and suddenly it went back down to lower than before. Insurance is just weird. DW and I pay about 1/3 what he pays
He is a good driver with a clean record and the car is just a 4 door VW Jetta. nothing fancy.
