Must be a TV?
A friend of mine just bought a beamer and is in love with it. AFAIK with 2500$ you might get a nice one.
I personally am very happy with my Samsung from 2013, used "un-smart" (laptop pluged to TV as smart part)

What is a "beamer"?

I've been using projectors for about a dozen years, and I've never heard anyone refer to a projector as a "beamer"...though I suppose I can see why.

It was a common term at the last job I worked. Perhaps it was the Swiss/German influence.

I have only heard and seen the word in the context of a car - BMW.

|

And that's spelled "Bimmer" not "Beamer".

I have never seen it spelled - only heard it said, and I have always heard it said, "beamer."
That's just me and my sheltered, west coast upbringing though.

I definitely want a projector for my movie watching.
That's because of my friends. Or I should say: Whoever visits me to see a movie, whether friends or others. It seems like everybody today considers a movie screen to be something that flickers away, for them to take a brief glance at now and then, inbetween all the chatting and helping themselves to more food and drink and showing each other their latest pictures on their phones. If something in the movie catches their attention, they remark it, want to talk about it with the others, and if they have seen the movie earlier, they tell what will happen in a few seconds.
Before Chistmas, a friend of mine with a huge LCD screen invited people to watch one specific Christmas movie - that was the very reason for getting together. Yet, ten minutes into the movie, people was still chatting without interruption. After fifteen minutes, the movie action was building up, and the chatting slowly died away... (In case you wonder: The movie was the Finish Christmas Horror Movie "Rare Exports Inc.", highly recommended but it might influence your ideas about Santa ).
My idea about watching a movie is to really watch it. If the movie takes 90 minutes, you give it 90 minutes, in full. The way you do in a movie theater. When the room is pitch dark, people tend to talk a lot less. They are less tempted to look for the snacks or beer. So they are more easily captured by the movie, quieting down, putting their cellphones away.
Maybe five years from now people will ignore the darkness and chat away even in my movie room (and in movie theaters). But for now, a projector significantly reduces the amount of disturbances for those who really want to watch the movie.

Oddly enough, I'm not being cynical when I say "can't she just sit a bit closer?".
I guess it has to do with growing up with B&W TV, but, no matter how big the screen, there's precious little worth watching, let alone SuperSizing an extra-extra large.

With the rate that local cinemas are closing. I'm sure there must be one close by that would be within your budget.

Is this thing real? There's no discussing of the underlying technology, algorithms, code base, etc. Seems like some fancy SGI with children to make it look cool.
Created by Bret Victor who worked as a "human interface inventor" at Apple for 4 years, but I guess his talks "Inventing on Principle" (2012) and "The Future of Programming" (2013) are what apparently, in some circles, elevated him to godhood.
[edit]Just watched the first video, actually quite impressive! But I still wonder, are these tools available?[/edit]

My goodness do these people not have any sense of shame regarding the manner in which they slaughter the English language?
...also, I watched most of that talk you linked to and read many of the comments - my impression is that he is not a software engineer and very few of the people leaving comments are software engineers. I thought it was a pretty poor talk from a software engineering point of view with very few specifics and lots of generalisations which did not really communicate anything at all.

Can't really see that the verbiage on the page expresses anything that hasn't been claimed by other 'projects' going back through time. Communes of the 60s had similar claims.
Doesn't mean it might not make money though. At least for a while. Compare it to Second Life.
"2040: A dynamicland in every neighborhood, following the model of the Carnegie libraries a century ago. Like libraries and museums, these dynamiclands will be run by the local community and reflect the local culture, in contrast to franchised clones or mass-produced products. Perhaps existing libraries will be dynamiclands."
Rather certain that is not going to happen.
