Hi All,
Time for a wine I have had before but... I am writing the test procedure for a new product and met with a push back for the way I wanted to do something. I am a Windows guy, it ain't perfect but... So I wanted an application to drive the serial port and configure it to work. The software team could not allow time to write a full application. I offered to write it in Visual Studio, I was treated like I was going to eat small children rather than save them time & effort, M$ apparently does not fit with the 'spirit' (those words were used) of the project ? Have I suddenly been transported to a parallel universe where we have to vegan, drink vegetable juice?? .
Also now I have remembered another thing, Why use more computing power than necessary, to flash an LED this lot want a Beagle Bone Black, I suggest a 555. 'Oh, but that is not reconfigurable', It's to show the unit is powered on. Why? Simpler for software but not cheap.

speaking of ... once used a 555 to make a whine
many many years ago. these days couldn't poke out my eye with a sodding soldering iron, ... unless of course the intention was exact opposite.

Vegatable juice is Ok with a little Vodka and a celery stick.
Or add some bacon and give it a go!

Wow, sounds like you're working with the same people that were raving about Design Patterns and Java 25 years ago. Same people but now they have grey hair, are anti-microsoft, and pro IoT geekiatrics.

I just lost the X axis and the print does not really look good anymore. The stepper motor is still working, so it's probably just the belt. Hand me the tools and let's hope the belt has not snapped and just has come off its wheel.

Or it could have slipped it's catch at the back of the X carriage (depending on how it's attached).
I'd recommend getting a fibre re-enforced belt (the wire ones stretch) and making a belt tensioner.

All done. It really just came off the wheel. It was not very hard to fix. Over the last years I had to do that a few times[^].

Very nice. I printed the other one, but for now I don't have time to work on it. Meanwhile I'm looking for two suitable brushless motors and ESCs that can be controlled by a Raspberry Pi. I still have two helicopter motors, but they would be a little too strong. i don't want to win races with the robot.

CodeWraith wrote: I don't have time to work on it Same here, I've got 20 things going and cant finish none of them.
I printed the little SMARS robot because I had all the parts to run build it, but it's not much more than a toy. Can't do a lot with it and the motors and controller it uses are very weak. But heh it's all for the fun of it right?

I thought the first thing all 3D printer owners printed was a full set of spare parts for their 3D printer...

There are surprisingly few parts that are not made of metal on this one. Besides that, you can print as much as you like, it will not prevent a belt from coming off. It's far more interesting to find out what led to that happening.
Anyway, it took only five minutes to fix and it has been printing all day, so it's not a big problem.
