Hopefully Microsoft will take you up on your offer since they definitely need a lot of training. I find a new bug just about every week and this week was no exception.

These are bugs with VS2017. Apparently I am very good at finding edge cases. Yesterday's bug was it fails to find a certain function in ComCtrl32.dll. This was annoying because I had written my own function for that functionality and they added one with the same name that did the same thing. My answer was to dig out my old function and adjust its name. Prior to that it wouldn't load resources from compiler DLLs in a static build so that means I have to use dynamic builds and install the compiler's redistributable package. I was not going to require that but since these are captive systems and apps that's not too big a deal. Prior to that, linking with the GetFileVersionInfo API has become completely hosed. This required some real hacks to work around but I had to do something to handle updating the app. I could go on but I will stop there.
I was reporting them but they have ignored the ones I did report except for one they replied to tell me it wasn't a bug. With that one, the behavior in question is by design but happens to be different than in other, related controls. Since then I have stopped wasting my time reporting them.

Yeah, you dont have to edit binary data, clearly!
Look, they only just added the ability to build drivers in VS, so I finally gave up my much used VS 2005 as an editor, though the build was always through a WDK command interface.
And I am damned annoyed that VS doesnt automatically open an unknown format of file in binary. Like it always did!

Well, you can set the default editor, but a binary file? I always thought it absurd that VS didn't have a decent hex editor for binary files.

FrHed is really great. MS probably saw it and gave up. They probably forgot to go and buy it.
Get the portable app. You'll thank me later.

Two questions in one today:
- Do you prefer tea or coffee?
...and by tea, I mean proper, English-style black tea with milk and optional sugar - none of this weird fruity cr*p they have here in the US, and certainly not the Liptons, bottom of the tea warehouse floor sweepings, "ice tea" that they also, blasphemously, claim is tea.
..and by coffee, I mean any old cr*p with enough cream and sugar in it.
- Does tea really taste better in a proper porcelain or fine china cup?
...I can drink coffee out of any old mug (as long as it's big enough) but I prefer my tea out of porcelain or fine china, if possible.
Note: People who only drink soda and/or water need not reply.
- I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.
