Last time I had to interact with one, I figured I was either talking to a bot, or the most stupid individual on Bell Canada's payroll.
And I'm still not convinced it was a bot.

For a paying service like my bank I prefer chatbots.
For a free service I would rather email the person, largely for their own sake. In that way they can gather information in their own time and not be a slave to the instant messenger hell of the chatbot universe.

My personal favorite is a (well-categorized) list of FAQs, information articles. Way superior to any chat bot.

I always found that "Deck the halls" had a Dutch ring to it, and it turns out I was right
It originates from the Dutch word "dekken" which means cover, see explanation here:

Because - if I worked for somebody else these days - I'd be damn tempted: book the 23rd, 2nd, and 3rd as holiday, and you got a 14 day break (since every company I've worked for shut down until the new year). 21st Dec through to the 6th Jan inclusive - that's a damn good break if you can swing it!
So how many of you are doing that?

I came back after 5 weeks of shut down just a week ago, so no.

Not me, I don't get paid holidays any more.

If you are retired you don't get any days off.
I always liked to work between Christmas and New Years, very few around to annoy me and I could get a lot done.
If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.

I used to get most done when the company president was away!

I'm already on leave since last Friday

First thing I do when I get back in January is book my two weeks for next Christmas.
Traditional beer and curry Friday night; cider farm[^] trip on Saturday; then I'm off until the 7th.
(I would say I'm not even going to look at a computer until then, but I'll probably end up getting roped in to sort out something-or-other on a family member's computer.)
Try not to break the site while I'm away!

Actually 16 days. I used to do this all the time.

Shutting down early on Friday.
Then I'll be checking in again on the eighth.

We have a use it or lose it Paid Time Off policy, so I'm done on Friday until the end of the year. I'll be back to work on 01/02.
In 'Mericuh, but I work for a subsidiary of a three letter German company. The PTO policy is from the subsidiary.

Wow - you're off until February?
(Yes, yes, I know: 'merican date formats. But if it's a German company, it could be worth a try...)

Lesson learned from now on dates will be represented as follows, January 2, 2020.

MarkTJohnson wrote: from now on dates will be represented as follows, January 2, 2020. That's fine for "January 2, 2020", but what about when we want to represent a different date?
I like the old system - each date had its on representation so it was easier to tell them apart.
(except the Euro version - which is way too backwards). 'Till you change your mind, it'll be yyyymmdd and that puts and end to it.

Actually the Euro version is more logical ddmmyyyy - smallest to largest.

In decimal numbers (and others like hexadecimal), the most significant digits come first. I prefer the same for dates: yyyy-mm-dd.
Most of my files are named in that fashion, so when I open a folder, I see the content in chronological order.

I agree and have always done that. But when writing dates in non-IT environments ddmmyy is still the preferred option.
