I don't get it - Corona[^] *is* alcohol. You can absolutely kill it But for some unknown reason people currently don't want to.

Hardly. And I say that as someone who drinks it. Sometimes.

jus being pedantic but the disinfectant sprays and hand sanitisers that do work against coronavirii do so by virtue of the ethanol they contain.
Warning: disinfectant & hand sanitiser ought to be applied externally, not imbiblicaly.

Just to be really pedantic, it's not just (or even) ethanol they contain, it's often a mix of isopropanol and / or n-Propanol either added to ethanol or replacing the ethanol completely (to prevent alcoholics consuming them*)
* You can tell a true alcoholic by their knowledge of what you can get drunk on - they know that vanilla extract is 40% proof booze with vanilla seeds added for example. But nobody looks at it when trying to keep you clean ... not from personal experience, I hasten to add.

maybe in some places, but the cheap stuff made here (Asia) is just fragrance, softener and about 90% ethanol
- denatured eth though so drinking it will likely also result in cleaning out the stomach via the mouth (or/and nose if really violent)
... not to mention the small side effects of temporarily flammable hands (much cooking here done on gas) and permanent blindness - but at least you will be virus free!

Some may contain ethanol, but primarily the alcohol for (non-drinking) use is isopropanol. It is much cheaper and manufactured. Furthermore, unlike ethanol-containing products, there's no danger of anyone (in different times) using it for a beverage (directly or by re distillation) without rapid and unpleasant consequences.
Generally sold as 70% and 91% solutions with water, but some more dilute concoctions are available either as witch hazel or in cheap-junk stores that give you the idea you're getting a bargain unless you notice it's 50%.
An added plus for ispropanol (i.e., normal rubbing alcohol) is that it's less volatile than ethanol.
Methanol, another very cheap manufactured alcohol is extremely toxic and can be absorbed through the skin with serious consequences. It generally only shows up in things like car wiper fluid.

We used to mix Methanol with a few drops of Nitroglycerin to make suitable fuel for an RC helicopter.
Ah! The good old days when you could buy Nitroglycerin from a hobby store!

It's not for a lack of sense of humor. I like a good joke as much as the next guy.
There's an endless number of articles being published every year suggesting April Fools is just passé in the age of the internet. It's definitely not just a "me" thing.

I have no idea what that is. I must've missed it[*], otherwise it clearly left no lasting impression whatsoever.

Right...I have a vague recollect. If it's a video, not tied to anything, and that's the extent of it...sure, I can live with that. It's when you have a series of headlines, for example, and you can't tell which is real, and which isn't...that's when things simply get annoying.
Just saw your new thread, which you've started with :
I don't think most April Fool's jokes are very funny.
That's pretty much where I stand. Most people couldn't pull off a good prank if their lives depended on it; most fall flat. So I can do without a day where everyone thinks he's God's gift to comedy. That's all I meant.
I'm glad to see we're not in total disagreement.

On both my linux desktop and my Win7 VM, I'm using Firefox v74.0 (the latest version).
On the Win7 VM, youtube runs without hindrance (other than the fact that they changed their interface).
On the Linux (Mint) host, I get a yellow banner stating that they "will stop supporting this browser soon", and the get the latest version. Also, the youtube home page doesn't show some of the thumbnails, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme/reason as to which thumbnails won't be displayed.
Since I'm running the latest version of FireFox, I can only assume they mean that they won't support FireFox on Linux. I say this because I don't get the message in Chromium (open source version of chrome).
Just to be sure, I fired up my Lubuntu VM, and I get the same behavior - Firefox displays the banner, chromium does not. Again, the Windows VM doesn't display the banner either.

I actually tried to set it to chrome, and when I did that, CodeProject stopped showing me controls that let me start/reply to messages, and a couple of other sites refused to let me browse to them because I was violating some sort of security protocol that doesn't like spoofed user agent strings. That was really weird, so I undid that.
