Do you have a clue to sell me if I answer this?

That's ok - I don't charge for clues, I give them away for free when I set 'em!

I dunno, some of your clues come at the cost of our sanity!

Damn, that clue is genius on so many levels. Not only have you got the double anagram, but also you could say "Tedious used to be Outside".

I was cruising anagram-solver.net, feeling a bit bored, and when I saw the two anagrams for tedious I couldn't resist.
I almost left off "So dull", but figured that would be beyond the CCC conventions.
I don't recall seeing very many double anagrams in the wild, but I have encountered a couple.

To follow Kent's post, I couldn't believe it when the Visual Studio upgrade installer downloaded over a GB, after the measly 1.?? Mb front-end installer took over. Made me never want to upgrade again. And it is now saying there is a new version available...

And I'm assuming that's not the full system either?
I've heard of others having multi-GB installs. And they don't even distribute MSDN with it anymore.

Nope. Just C++ and a handful of others.

I don't have the full package and got almost 3 Gb in the last 2017 update I did, I don't want to imagine what a fully installed VS2019 would get

the size of the updates don't bother me at all. its the stability and accuracy of the updates that bother me as they have become more inconsistent with every build release.
David O'Neil wrote: it is now saying there is a new version available
this is because their updates are shite. constantly fixing, no end in site.

if you installed everything or almost everything during your initial VS install then your updates sizes will be greater.
My update sizes are not too bad because I only installed what I needed, not what I wanted.

Back with 2017, I regularly let it update the full set of files so I'd have a folder containing anything and everything I might want to install, ready to go and already up to date.
The entire folder weighted in at 40+ GB. It would regularly pull down 30+ GB worth of updates at a time. With my 5mbps connection, that was a full day's worth of downloads, so I reserved those for weekends.
I've stopped doing that and nowadays only let VS update what it thinks I need based on what I have installed.

Just got a notice for updating the BIOS on my laptop - it's a 17.5MB install. I'm hoping most of that is just the setup folderol?

Nope, that's really it. I have read that the latest processors need 32MB so some old motherboards with 16MB of memory can't be used with them.

Unreal - I was expecting some minigames or something, but I guess because all the BIOS are getting almost GUI-fied these days.

American Megatrends BIOS had a GUI and PS/2 mouse support back in 1996, when a 8 MB RAM PC was still common.
Consider that a car ECU with limited functionalities and a single communication system requires about 2-3 MB of optimized binary and it does not have to support multiple client OS in thousands of possible hardware configurations.
