In the Netherlands we had a flooding in 1953 because the dykes broke and we're below sea level.
I'm not talking wading through the water flooding, I'm talking complete houses under water flooding[^].
The older houses in town still show signs that they've been under (salt) water.
Many people died.
My grandparents were still young and they remember it well.
It's simply referred to as (loosely translated) "the water disaster", or short "the disaster".
The fact that we can just call it "the disaster" tells you how many of them we have over here, just the one

Hurricane Katrina, and all of the other hurricanes that have hit the New Orleans area since Camille back in the 60's.
Katrina was the worst, hands down. The aftermath and flooding was terrible.
I did collect 176,000.00 on my flood insurance. Needed all of it to rebuild the downstairs portion of my home (which is where my office is located).

Link not working.
Since it tries to link to KCCI, I'll assume you're in DSM. I was living there when the huge floods came through in 1993 (?).
Luckily for me, I was out in NW DSM, not near any water, so for me it was just a hassle--not having water for quite some time, having to go to the water truck to fill jugs.
A lot of people had their houses destroyed though.

Just got through Hurricane Isaiah here on Long Island in New York.
The power company did such a bad job with their response that it took a week to get everyone's power back up.
My wife and I lost power only for a few hours but we are on the hospital grid so we are always a priority in our region.
Nonetheless, the power company is being seriously investigated.
But it was Hurricane Sandy that demolished us a number of years ago. It was so bad that there are still parts of the Island that have never been fully repaired.
Now that I am retired, I no longer have any need to leave my home-office...

rnbergren wrote: Also, I have been thru worse natural disasters. What is the worst one you have been thru? I know mine will not compare to others. Once it rained for forty days and forty nights straight here... well, not really rain so much as drizzled.. and it does that every few years anyway.. darn, I got nothin.. nothing to see here, move along.
I hear you on the office setup thing. I've been in the office a few times on and off and I'm still on the fence of which I like better. The setup is pretty similar, but I miss seeing coworkers in person, but I like not having to commute (way more free time.. to get the house ready for that forty days and nights of rain, of course.. it's been a few years so we're due)

This will be MUCH clearer for people who post programming questions in the Lounge. It's about time.
When you click on New Discussion there is bold and red text that reads,
Quote: Please DO NOT POST PROGRAMMING QUESTIONS HERE. If you have a programming question please post it in the programming forums at forums
[Edit]For those that do not see it, it appears it only shows when you do not have enough rep points. Now that my points are back, I don't see it anymore either.
CP should probably have it always show.

I can't see it yet.
Correction: I can now see it, after clicking in the link "posting guidelines" on the right side.
Tried it again... it is not visible by default (at least not for me in FireFox)

You can make it visible if you click in "posting guidelines" in the right side.
Clicking in the question mark, makes it disappear
