Thanks Griff!
Yes, I am offshore, left home 6-nov and here until end of January!
Bought myself a Celestron 11" Rasa telescope to celebrate, it got delivered a few days ago at home.
Today was a good start, rescued a green turtle that had got hung up in fishing line and floats which had then got entangled round the platform.
Grappling hook to get it onboard then cut it free and removed the fishing hooks from its neck and body. God their skin is tough! Anyway, it's free and released back into the gulf now, to live another Day.
Hope the rest of the day is peaceful!
P.s. 200k is knocking on the door....cough cough been a while hovering around!

I know, it's been a bad few years of timing! It was bad enough missing the whole of summer as well.

Was the turtle wearing a red hat btw?
|
|
|
|
|
No but it was wearing about 6 polystyrene floats and bottles. Poor we thing had hooks embedded in it. Kept trying to swim under the water but couldn't get anywhere. The line was also wrapped round it's front left flipper cutting in.
It swam away quite happily when we had cleaned it up and put it back in the sea.

I think we have been making more effort in Cyprus than in UK. We have district movement restrictions, night time curfews, public masks, early restaurants closing, School closures etc.
Police are enforcing with heavy fines.
|
|
|
|
|
I agree - the government is making all the right moves, and the fines can be eye-watering, but every day I read of tens - sometimes even as much as a hundred - fines issued that day. Over the last 60 days the average daily increase in cases is 290 per day, with a mean rate of increase of 6.3 cases per day. I doubt vaccination will start for another month, so we could be looking at up to 600 cases per day, with Christmas and the New Year coming up. The graph 'Total Coronavirus Cases in Cyprus' at Cyprus Coronavirus: 17,476 Cases and 89 Deaths - Worldometer[^] ] shows the worrying gradient of the infection rate.
The government has made some bold, but for some, unpopular decisions, but I fear they are being flaunted by a selfish few.

Happy birthday Dave, new telescope looks awesome...keep the photos coming.
I'm not sure how many cookies it makes to be happy, but so far it's not 27.

This evening my coffee maker machine committed suicide! I am frantic and near tears! No coffee tomorrow morning! AAAaaaaaarrrrgh! I will probably take a handful of Java beans and suck on them tomorrow.
Ps: Please don't send flowers. It will just make me cry!

Either have the coffee Turkish-style (grounds in the cup, very strong, with sugar), or :shudder: have instant coffee.

Instant coffee?!
Instant coffee?!
Instant coffee?!
I cannot believe you even said that!

His reply was what I would have given had he not - at least the part about turkish style. That, in fact, was my method-of-choice for coffee for years - real coffee fresh brewed in your cup. It doesn't get any better. Make sure it's finely ground so it settles and stays settled.
Now as for "instant". Starbucks came out with some "instant" coffee that's just about real. It's also a bit costly. Don't worry about that as the turkish option is just as good.
Now here's some fun trivia (relevant because Daniel Pfeffer is Israeli): I had an Israeli friend - I met her at a Dude Ranch in upstate NY when we were both about 16. I learned something interesting: in Israel, they call all instant coffee 'nescafe'. Not the brand, but as a pun: 'nes', in Hebrew, means "miracle" - as she explained it was considered a miracle if it tasted anything like coffee.

I know your pain, first hand.
Coffee and ice are all that I really need. Coffee, well, for the caffeine, and ice for the seltzer. Both are my favorite liquid refreshments during the day, especially while I am head's down coding, etc.
Yes, coffee is a refreshment.
