Today is a slow day. Amazon project of mine got put on hold, so today is more or less a monitor-the-systems kind of day.
On the bright side, I recently got some friends hooked on Factorio on PC, and that's been quite the adventure. Certainly makes my evenings a bit more exciting.

It's just that all the smog has been washed out of the air. Don't expect it to last...
In Israel, we have one day in autumn (fall for USians) when almost all commercial activity stops and the smog over Tel Aviv clears - the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). That is the only day of the year when it is barely possible to see the sea from where I live (about 30 km inland, 200 m above sea level).
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

That's strangely beautiful, in spite of the smog.

TBH, I'm working on it but it's taking some doing. It will be a few years before we're well positioned to enter Canada.

*sigh* I have a number of American friends, all trying to work out their exist strategy.

Yeah.
Our society is pretty sick. I predict full scale fascism, probably inside 8 years unless a civil war derails it.
It's a sad day when I'm hoping for civil war.
I don't want to leave. I'd be leaving behind the only family I'm close to, a friend of 30 years, and various and sundry other loved ones. I feel like I'm abandoning them. I know I will feel sick keeping up on American affairs from abroad. Assuming I do get in to canada, I'll feel terrible for the advantages I had that I couldn't grant my own brother or sister, or all of my friends that are racial, ethnic, gender, or sexual minorities - people I'm close to and/or people that will suffer american fascism the hardest.
I don't want to leave. But I don't think I can stay.

Yeah, I would feel the same, we are definitely sliding into fascism, and even today, 74 million people voted for Trump and a great many insist he must have won. This won't end easily

No matter what someone believes it's hard to ignore that a good portion of the population believes The Big Lie. People will simply disagree about what the Big Lie is. (Election was stolen/Election was not stolen - we were always at war with europa/we were never at war with europa)
We're in a post-truth point in this society, and post-truth is pre-fascism.
Things have gone totally post modern here. It's no longer about what is true.
What is true is now what people in power tell you is true.
The election was legitimate and *not stolen* only because of who has the power right now. Not because it's the truth.
Let me see if I can explain this better. The truth in this country, right now, is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is power. People in power dictate what is "true"
Because a significant portion of the population wants it that way. It feeds their alternate reality bubble, because in addition to being lied to, they're being validated and affirmed.
But it doesn't just affect them. It affects everyone now. We have to impose "truth" at gunpoint. The scary thing is, they will impose their "truth" at gunpoint and again, it comes down to power at the end of the day.
People are so divided that they can't even agree on what is objectively real.

Yes, democracy is broken. If 40% of the population vote based on bullshit they read on the internet (white genocide, agenda 21, Q), then how can votes represent the will of the people?
And yes, I watched insurrection be planned on Parler. I see people talking about violence being the only solution, on Mewe, every day. I was permanently kicked off Facebook for not liking fascism

I for one am glad to see the back of Donald Trump - you've been quiet on here of late - are you working on another article ?

I am patiently waiting for the new Radeons to be available / a bit cheaper than launch prices to buy a new computer for me.

Yeah, I would wait if I were you. I couldn't because my current machine has serious problems and I can't afford to wipe it. I need to run two machines in tandem for awhile while I move things.
My machine is:
AMD Raedon 7 .. 4650? I think it's called. 8 cores.
32GB of RAM,
512GB NVMe primary storage,
2TB (IIRC) of HDD secondary storage that I'll wind up eventually replacing.
Currently onboard video, but it's probably good enough for me, esp since it's that APU powered mess. We'll see. If nothing else I'll buy a used vidcard for like $200 online
500W power supply, tower case, fan cooled
I paid about $1200 USD for it through Amazon, so it was pretty good deal I think.
The CPU benches @ 3rd place right now at the sites I've checked.

Oh you get sun where you are do you? Luxury!
(and I just got the point of this. It's been a tough day. All I can say is with one thing and another I'm going to have to find a real book to read given my jaw-dropping news reading days are now over)
cheers
