I've been helping someone get a new waveshare board running only to fail last minute due to the board being crap and me running out of moves to work around it. It's a brand new board, and library/toolchain support is currently trash.
Yesterday at 3am a windows update rebooted my laptop and launched my dual boot linux mid update (lid closed so I didn't realize) - that nuked my windows. I was going to my sister's that day, and that's the only time I ever use my laptop. Frustrating. Fortunately I got it reinstalled enough that it limped along for the trip but heckin grrr. Serves me right for not turning off scheduled updates.
I've been a bit down on tech over the past few days.
Finally, my makerfabs 7" arrived. At 1024x600 it's pushing the limits of this little ESP32-S3 MCU. I have a header file used for driving displays of various kinds - kind of an all in one Big Ball of Mud that nevertheless has served me quite well for driving LCDs of all kinds from an ESP32. I plugged in the pins and things like horizontal sync, vertical back porch, etc and it fired right up and ran my code.
I needed that. Now I just need to update esp_mon2 to be able drive displays that are this large (and relatively slow updating). Currently if it receives serial data faster than the display can draw it crashes.
It shouldn't be a problem, because I'm on my game now.

There are only two ideas in Modern UI (&/or Web) Design, see the image[^].
Do you like Modern Web Design or Classic?
Here's the difference[^].
I created these memes and they are my contributions to the ongoing UI Design discussion.
They show you why the UX is so irritating, agitating, annoying and other synonyms.

And it's risen by 30% this year - an extra £60!
So I look around to find out why and it turns out that's not bad - the average rise in the UK this year is 43%. Bloody glad I'm not still 17 ... they pay an average of £3,145
I'm still going to shop around, but ... looks like it might be not too bad a price after all.

Yeah - I guess the increase in value due to the cost of EVs has helped push the cost up generally, even if you don't drive an EV (because I can't charge one anywhere near home).
I just tried a couple of the "insurance comparison" sites, and they couldn't get below the renewal price - the closest was £30 more!
I'm really, really glad I'm not 17 any more ...

The old car we just kept about the same, I think an extra £10, but it is terrible.
Looking forward to the main car in the Autumn, I'm expecting an extra £200 at least.

I just glad my car is a (relatively) low insurance group: 15E
For a laugh, I checked the group for Teslas - they start at 36 and go up to 50! Try buying an EV when you are 17 ...

18 years ago I paid a bit under $1500/yr for my car insurance.
Today it's a bit under $1400/yr. It's the same car. It's 18 years old and now practically worthless. Never claimed anything.

May I disagree? I'd rather be 17. Better yet: 30... insurance cost and everything
