My Windows 10 system does this if I go several weeks of not having it on. It'll take 15-20 minutes before becoming responsive. It ended up being downloading and installing updates, and then doing a virus scan. Once all of that was done, startup times are back to normal. Weeks later, it'll do it all over again. I've just learned to hit the power button and walk away if it's been more than a week or two.

I don't know how you walk away from your computer for two weeks. I would die.

Because, unlike some newer generations, I have a life outside of computers. I wouldn't expect the younger crowd to understand that, however.

Actually the younger crowd is too busy having even less of a life being busy on their phones. A computer? How quaint, they'll tell you.

My version: I don't know how you walk away from your computer for two weeks. I would die go fishing.

I can't stand fishing. I'd rather do almost anything.

A bad day fishing is better than a good day doing anything else. Except solving a programming issue that has been causing major grief.

I have to do both or go crazy. Fish and compute.
Too many years working with computers and too many years fishing with hope.

Well if Hope is cute I suppose it could make fishing tolerable…

Cute includes hard to catch Speckled Sea Trout and/or Red Drum (Redfish here in Texas). Big fighters and delicious fish dinners.

I'm betting it was busy updating itself (maybe to 11, who knows) and you'll see the same thing again a few days after next Patch Tuesday. 11 hasn't changed from 10 in that respect.

Did upgrade to W11 on 2 desktops and 1 laptop. Mostly good. Pay attention to further upgrades including optional.
Optional upgrade for Nvidia was a must.

I have an old Dell laptop that takes forever to boot up as well. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with Windows11.
I think most of it is because Win10 has gotten bloated with updates.
Once it is running, it is still slow opening programs, IDEs, etc. It may be just my computer.

The more formats the better, but I am interested in converting from STEP to SAT now.
Does anyone know of an OFFLINE free tool that does this well? (I don't want to upload files to a remote server).
Thank you all in advance.

I am not an expert, but fusion 360 might be able to do so.

Damn, Joan wrote offline in CAPITALS and of course I ignored it ...
Thanks for the clarification !

In fact I wrote it without the OFFLINE part and then edited it... it's been very fast... but maybe you just started answering before the update...
That would probably counts as the fastest answer ever.
Thanks for the answer though!

I regularly check traffic on my GitHub project, and writing or updating an article on this site results in a significant increase in interest. So thank you to Chris, Matthew, and everyone else who makes CodeProject possible.
Yesterday, however, is hard to explain: 6 unique cloners and--get this--1,443 clones. I would provide a link, but I can't see traffic on other projects, so I don't think the link would work for anyone else. Did someone run an insane script? I don't recall there ever being more than a dozen downloads.

So an insane script is the most likely explanation! Thanks for the link.
