Perform a search, .e.g self rising floor
Under the search bar and above the results I see a row of ovals that are filters. Like images, recipes, etc. Scroll that list of filters to the left and on the far right, the last entry will be tools.
You may need to select the "all" filter before it appears.

You get it on the results page, to the right of "Images, Shopping, Videos, News, Maps, ...".

I never really noticed it after a search. Doh

Gave a search string in my language Kannada, and Google search worked just fine.

What did it do?
I just tried the following and it still seems to find pretty exact results for a search string.
"file not found" site:microsoft.com

They have definitely removed the effectiveness of + sign.
It used to be
+a +b +c
would only return pages with all 3. Now top hits will include pages missing some of the keywords.

That has been a frustration for me for many years. Search has been getting squishier.
Search for exactly what is in the quotes please, not something similar.
When I excluse a word or phrase with -, I mean it.
When I include a word or phrase with +, I mean it.
I know it may result in limited results, that is why I'm using the feature.
And Microsoft, when I use search on my computer, don't go poking the Internet. If I wanted that I would have opened a broswer!
Now get off of my lawn!

They are? I thought that was Chrome and Edge.

People always joke about Bing, but honestly, it's fine.
Seriously. When MS finally killed IE "for good", my next browser of choice fell back to Edge, as I don't want to feed Google any more of my data; at the same time I just kept its default engine (which, obviously, is Bing).
And so far, I've had no reason to believe I got inferior results. I still got problems solved in the same way.
Windows, being the OS I use, will suck up my data, whether I want it to or not. Given a browser will also do its darndest to do the same, then I'd rather have it go to the same entity than choose another browser as I'd then otherwise have two companies abusing it. And Google's sole reason for existing is to sell you ads (they make no bones about it). Microsoft is making its money elsewhere (although as far as ads go, it's not for lack of trying).
So as far as I'm concerned, it's a choice of lesser of two evils, knowing that one of them already has your data whether use you their browser or not.

I've noticed Google search is definitely getting less effective.

I read recently that Duck Duck Go is doing the same - removing the advanced search operators.
I didn’t use them often, but knowing I could subtract (-) a term from results, or force inclusion (+) was nice.

I must be doing something wrong. I tried searches with the following and it still seems to work like I expect
"file not found" linux
"file not found" -linux

Interestingly since ChatGPT, I've hardly used Google the last few weeks. It could just be the work I've been doing, but it could be that it's not as helpful as it once was.
