Very sorry to hear about your family member. I had to make that decision last March for our pup, she was just shy of 13. One of, if not the hardest decision I've ever made. I feel for you, your hubby, and of course your cat.

I had the same problem with one of my cats. It developed when he was older and didn't take long before reaching lymphoma stage. Steroids helped for a short while but than it was just downhill. In the end I had to take him to the vet to put him down and held him while the vet gave the injection. It wasn't easy but I felt I owed him that much after he gave me 16 years of joy. In afterthought, I should have taken him to the vet earlier but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

truth. It gets worse when most of the cats are associated with children. Even when the child is older / grown adult, it's still hard.
I have a 16+ yo cat wandering around the house - deaf, blind, but it hasn't started missing the litter box. I've made it clear when that happens....
I have one of the few rough coat sable collies in the area (think Lassie). This is my wife's dog. He's about 11 now and starting to show signs of hip dysplasia. He'll be a hard one.

For what it is worth, there are people that will come to your house and euthanize the pet. We found this to be good thing, not bringing our pet to the vet, as that always caused great anxiety. The people that came were very understanding and sympathetic, as I was a wreck. My pup was relaxed, laid in her favorite spot, it was as peaceful for her as it could be.

We did that for my Maine Coon, Chairman Maow, when he got cancer. He hated car rides so bad, he broke out of the side of a cat carrier - leaving a big hole like the Kool Aid man. Poor thing bloodied himself in the process.

My friend had two cats named Nixon and Reagan. I thought it was hilarious and somehow fitting.

I've known a cat where Nixon would've been very apt description of said cat, that look...

That title is slightly twisted, it should be sick pets and end of life, the way you say it one might think it`s about the death of a human added to a pet being sick.
It`s difficult to watch a sick pet, especially when you know he or she is not going to recover.

My last cat had cancer.
I noticed she wasn't very energetic for a few days.
Went to the vet and it was either an inflammation or cancer.
Had to get an additional test, turned out to be both.
Lived with a cancer cat for two weeks, carrying her everywhere because she wouldn't move.
One morning I woke up and noticed some black goo came from her eyes, that's when I knew it was time.
Hardest decision of my life.
She was only 12.
The house was empty after that and I tried not te be home too much.
I couldn't even say her name without crying for weeks.
My current cat is more affectionate than my previous one.
I just hope she lives to be very old...
Good luck with your cat.

Is that the English spelling of "politician" or the American? Because the English has 8 letters, and the US has only 7 ...

I'm kinda glad a non Brit solved it as I was a bit worried that tory might be too specific to the UK.
