A related question:
Probably 10 to 15 years ago, NASA made a feverish search for the original 2-inch video tapes from the Apollo 11 moon landing, so the tapes could be properly digitized with high quality before the world's last 2-inch tape player was ditched. "Everybody" had the images transmitted back to earth; they were definitely "1960 quality". Much better quality video images were brought back on tape. (And still images were of course excellent.) But at the time when the tape machine was to be thrown out, noone could tell where the tapes had gone.
I never heard of the tapes ever being found. Are they still lost? (And: Was the tape machine ditched, or was it saved in hope of the tapes being found?
I couple of years ago, saw a a brushed-up version of the moon landing movie, but I interpreted the written commments as this being a digitally processed version of the video transmitted to earth (and the quality was certainly far below what I would expect from a 2-inch tape).
Does anyone know the full story of the video tapes from the moon landing?

Hollywood lost them in a fire. Good thing too, as they would have proven that the moon landing was fake news!

... Because all the do to me, for one, is piss me off.
I was going to add a gag about tables to the Programming Question of the Week?[^] thread, but when I checked the link to giveupandusetables-dot-com, I found that a bunch of pr1cks have taken it over, with the typical kind of half-arsed shop site that I would in no way trust with my money.
So all the links to giveupandusetables, all around the web, now point to those prick's site -- and let's be very clear that the name giveupandusetables-dot-com is in no way connected with what they're trying to sell.
What's annoying isn't that giveupandusetables is gone; it's that the pr1cks we're discussing, here, obviously think they're marketing geniuses, who have made a genius move that will make their fortunes, because everyone will be so happy that the site they wanted has been hijacked by them.
Anyway, having long ago downloaded acopy of the giveupandusetables app, I've uploaded it to here[^], and I might later use the wayback machine to also add a copy of the original page.

Er, yeah. As I said, it's the giveupandusetables app.
I think you'll find that most apps might just be executable, so if you don't want to download executables, don't download things that are clearly described as apps.

Er yeah, and most apps have as a minimum a readme, confirming what it is [supposed to be], what it needs, and where to get extra info.
it's not personal (you've been on the board a long time)
but for those not so long it looks just like a spam virus/trojan message was all I was saying,

OK, so which part about the web-site being gone did I not explain clearly enough?
You want instructions? Use the wayback machine.
If you don't want it, don't download it/delete it/whatever.
It ain't worth this much discussion.

Spring cleaning the "tech box" - you know all those things too useful to throw away like a collection of different length IDE cables,
among the items some very old spare phone batteries... hello, I'm pretty sure that when I bought that one about 10 years ago it didn't have that bulge in it?!?!
sure it was only starting to bulge, but, nah! any batteries or devices with a fixed battery in it: bin time!
My XT keyboard collection safe for another decade or 3. :phew: ... ya never know when...

I don't know about that. I had a cat live in my Corolla for a while. I am the only person I know of who had a Persian car pet in their vehicle.

Just accepted a 1099 gig
Been a long time since I've done one of those.
If you are an old hand at this, tell me the really stupid things you've done that really burned you in the past, so that I might get some sort of a warning in advance.
Also eager to read about the smart moves you have made.
Oh, and duh, have any important laws changed which will come into effect on January 1st ?
