I discovered this show yesterday through some Youtube videos. I found it so sad that this show idea was (is?) a viable business. I mean they need to find people over 600 pound regularly and it seems it was easy looking at their Wiki page.
Not to start a political argument here but I really found it sad that developed country is troubled with obesity at this level. I am quite sure good education about what, how much and when you eat at young age could help a lot of people.

In other words: Others are guilty for 'my' obesity?
I would estimate about 80% of obese people is self made.
I feel very sorry for the other ones who have to live with it.

Yes. For example, victims of sexual assault do it, most of the time without even knowing it, to make themselves as unattractive as possible so they are not assaulted again.

Yes, I'm aware of that!
[Edit]
And I don't assume that 70% of the US population is a victim of abuse

More like 100%.

Of course we can now discuss what self-made means in detail. But I don't feel like doing that

Yep,
Obesity is known to be related to psychiatric problems. It's super important to eat healthy and get a little exercise.

I did think if that as well. I am sure there are some out there with mental health issues which results in eating disorders. But then I thought, if taught at young age, it may be helpful for people to evaluate themselves and their behaviours and get help. Of course, help needs to be available and affordable.
I was ~30 when I realized that I am prone to addictions and I can do a lot of self harm due to addictions. Luckily, I think, I am mentally stronger than addictions as I kicked them out for good. If I was taught to be self aware when young, I may have figured it earlier instead of hard way.

What you've been taught can easily be overwhelmed by a compulsion. Therein lies the struggle of the abused.

Plus, the portion size in US is too big. We had ordered a burger with side salad and no chips/fries. What we got was a burger that looks twice as big as European ones, a bucket of salad and what would be medium sized fries in Europe. My wife and I looked at each other and said at same time - we should have just ordered 1 burger and "side" salad for both of us.

Developed countries tend to have more sedentary lifestyles. Combine this with rich, high calorie foods and the human body will simply store all the extra fuel for the next famine.
Where we fall down in avoiding this is with food pricing. The high calorie foods tend to be cheaper to make and therefore are cheaper to buy. Nasty cycle many people get into.
