Yet ... everybody is using it: is that a testimony of the inadequacy of Microsoft web-centric tooling/languages ... or, just the fact that ECMAScript nee Javascript is the lowest-common-denominator by-default result of political/business vectors of influence in the fierce battle for web/internet mind-share of the usual mega-players; and, the failure of international standards ?
Or, given the incredible popularity of Python, is there an intrinsic "hunger" for weakly-typed interactive languages with a REPL loop ... nomatter the technical cost of not using strongly defined Types ?
TypeScript, and WASM, are prosthetic devices to make JavaScript ... ?

I think JavaScript "won" simply because it was the first, and it was everywhere. It's certainly not without flaws (including lack of types), but it's good enough (obviously) to keep everything flowing.
As for Python, I just don't know. I think you're right that the REPL does appeal in some situations. What surprises me about Python is just how old it was before it picked up the current popularity. Looking at Google's ngram for python[^] (which of course would be contaminated by the snake), the inflection point at 2016 seems to be really when it took off. Mostly due to big data folk jumping on it, probably due to the REPL benefits.
TypeScript generates JavaScript, so it is an entry point. WASM less so, as it's a competing target.

I don't use any of the Windows media players since Windows 98. They all invariably sucked. Who doesn't install VLC in the first hours of setup anyway?

I was very happy with Winamp at the beginning, but somewhen on the way between windows XP and windows 7 it started to be really bad. Although I really liked some of his its functions, I ended changing to VLC too

Natives in Tech, a US-based non-profit organization, has called upon the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) to change its name, out of respect for indigenous American peoples and to live up to its own code of conduct. Coming soon: Navajo Software Foundation (what could go wrong?)
I also remember it came from "a patchy web server", but apparently the author says that's not the case

It's ironic that they're complaining about a "native" name that was actually given to them by others, probably Europeans. The Apache actually called themselves Diné, meaning "The People". Apache actually means "enemy." So I don't understand why they would care. *sigh*

Isn't Diné the name the Navajos use for themselves?
According to Wikipedia, the Apaches call themselves Indé.
The Wikipedia article on the Apaches is far from definite on the origin of the name 'Apache'. One explanation is that it has its root in Spanish, but 'The ultimate origin is uncertain and lost to Spanish history', and continues: 'Another theory suggests the term comes from Yavapai ʔpačə meaning "enemy"'.
For the name Navajo, I have come across two completely different explanations: Wikipedia says that "Navahu comes from the Tewa language, meaning a large area of cultivated lands." I have seen other sources claiming that the origin is from the Hopis, meaning "thief". I don't know which is correct. (I am not one who thinks that Wikipedia unconditionally and always represent The Absolute Truth!)
In any case, Navajo (or Navaho) seems quite clearly not to have been given them by Europeans.
Maybe there are Apache and/or Navajo members on CP who can shed light on this?

Not having read the story ... this is my guess of the viewpoint that wants the name change.
It is using a culture's / race's identifying name for something that has absolutely nothing to do with that group. It distorts and weakens the meaning and significance of the identifier when it is used for something other than the group. When you say "Apache", there shouldn't be any question or much thought needed to know that you are referring to the Native American nation and its culture; you shouldn't have to use the surrounding context to determine tribal nation versus software. When you says Irish, you immediately know that whatever you're talking about has some connection to the Irish culture. It should be the same when you say Apache.
I make no statement either way on whether I personally agree with this position. I do understand it, though.
