On the other hand, phishers become much more professional writers nowadays. They almost coped with fooling me just yesterday. Their email was in clean German language (no more those strange automatic translations from whichever language), they showed my name and complete address (well, it's outdated now because I moved 3 months ago), and a phone number. But that number was my work phone number 11 years ago (when I lived at an other different place).
I still wonder where they got those data from: my employer at that time, or the unemployment office at that place (according to German law, I had to register there 3 month before my time-limited job ended), or something else - someone who updated my address after moving from that place, but not the phone number...

No, the problem is a daft company who released an IoT app without proper security procedures - user's should have immediately been prompted to change the admin login.
A classic case of victim-blaming. Remember, not everyone is exceedingly IT literate.

There is some worrying trends within automation where one feels they can absolve themselves of all responsibilities.

This is part of the way that brains work too - they are discovering. Basically, as you allow other things to think, you think they are thinking for you and forget to think. 
So, yes, as things get smarter, we get dumber. My computer typed this and I didn't check it, so if it's wrong...

You know what pisses me off?
All these fly-by-night companies are selling webcams and remote light switches and calling them "smart homes".
It is insulting and gives people who build REAL smarthomes a bad name.
I once actually heard "smart homes, oh yeah, I saw that at Home Depot".

I threw up in my "home theater". Well, it's just a tv.
We built a real home theater back in the 90's. Floor suspended on rubber cushions to absorb vibrations. Seating, lighting, projection. Over $100k. THAT's a home theater.
Now people put a bluetooth soundbar below there TV and that's a home-theater.

It's so that when you're watching a sportsball game with your friends you don't have to hear the chickflic your wife and her friends are watching elsewhere in the house and vice versa.
