The reason why I posted this one, rather than the Bloomberg article itself is that Bloomberg (like a large and growing number of news sites) limits you to a few articles a month.
Also: sorry to those of a certain age for the Neil Sedaka earworm.

Desktop Windows has had so many problems, desperate measures may be needed. You're crazy
Teeeecccccchnically possible, maybe. But could you imagine how long it would take to stabilize that? (not to mention getting all the Win API to work)

More likely to see a hybridized system where both the linux and windows kernels live side-by-side.
Just like we see a WOW64 layer we'll see a WOL (windows-on-linux) and/or a LOW (linux-on-windows) layer.

Then we could all WOL-LOW around in our machines?

You mean Windows 10 doesn't support POSIX?

Um, I think it does.
not sure that's the same as taking a linux binary and running it --as is-- on windows.

Quote: Desktop Windows has had so many problems What the hell is he talking about? The problems with Windows have little to do with the NT Kernel, which is kick ass and magnitudes better than the Linux kernel.

Ding, ding, ding!
I still say that they main problem for the Windows devs is that there are just way too many flaky (and changing under them) drivers to support (OK, in the case of the Intel/Broadcom network cards not so much). Kernel is pretty solid, and getting better with the whole MinWin development.

So for Windows 11, they should put a Linux Desktop around the NT Kernel!

This guy is a complete Linux fan-numpty. The Windows kernel is pretty much rock solid and is the bit that doesn't need replacing with a bunch of flaky Linux kernel-of-the-week implementations.
What needs changing is the culture of trying to look as pretty as the iCrap stuff, running on a phone, while skipping over the needs of real desktop users. I'm sure the next version of the Windows graphic shell will have an interface for people who wear boxing gloves... oh, hang on - it already does.

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?
Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you

Ummmm, the Linux kernel is updated every couple of years. It's the 1,001 Linux distributions, dozens of UIs, and half a dozen package updaters that are the primary problems with Linux.

To quote the 13-year old daughter of a friend of mine, "Whatever!".
So succinct!
Actually, you are correct. In both O/S the problem doesn't really lie in the kernel itself.

Today at CppCon 2019, we (the MSVC team) announced that we’re releasing our implementation of the C++ Standard Library (also known as the STL) as open source. They do have standards, you know

I thought it already WAS open-source...

Pretty sure they had the source publicly accessible, but without an OSS compatible license or any mechanism to submit changes.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
