I think there's a difference between staying current and improving your knowledge. For example, I read Eric Evans's excellent book on Domain-Driven-Design recently, and it made me look at software development in a whole new light. That was improving my knowledge. I have also recently been learning Node.js, so that was staying current.
Good software developers need to do both.
"There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult." - C.A.R. Hoare

Which age is that? There's been a fairly constant drip of cover versions[^] (Wikipedia).

Small bread, half baked, what is difference?
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

GitLab is targeting the enterprise, but will its open source allure be enough to win developers away from GitHub? For the gits inside the firewall

yup - I worked in a very closed shop/secure environment - I had the issues of 'getting people to use a repository' and then 'convincing them it was secure' - this would have eliminated both of those concerns (although probably not when we were collaborating with an outsource Co)
still, 'different strokes....'

This marks a milestone in delivering new value for Office 365 subscribers with a focus on collaboration, apps that work for you, a perfect pairing with Windows 10, and security features businesses will love. "Meet the new boss..."
Incentivize the collaborative paradigm!
I've been using it for a while, and I've seen all of one feature that wasn't in the previous version.

I'm betting the only one is the right-click menu. And the only options there are Show Ribbon | Hide Ribbon | Customize Ribbon.

Quote: Skype for Business is now available in the client apps, allowing you to IM, screen share, talk or video chat right in your docs. This same experience will be coming to Office Online later this fall. Skype for Business also has faster screen sharing and now adds the option to start a real-time co-authoring session from any conversation or meeting.
So did they just slap a Skype skin on Lync; or did they reinvent the wheel? If the latter, I hope the PHBs running it were smart enough to realize that a lot of thier current Lync customers won't accept a solution that's only available with a backend on MS owned servers instead of in house ones, and have planned accordingly.

Skype for Business is just Lync with new underoos. And of course a separate code base from Skype for non-business.
Really? Your help desk blocks sharing sites? Why don't they just block file shares (or even files) while they're at it? Sending from OneDrive is the only new feature I've seen in the new Oriface.

I suspect file share sites are blocked as a data loss prevention move; easier to blacklist the entire domain than just block upload pages/etc. Internal file share's aren't a source of that risk.
An external Share(d)Point(OfFailure) is our baseline for sending/receiving files to big to email. I suspect if there was a business need (read a client refusing to use our sharepoint and insisting on dropbox/etc) I could get an exception (just for my user account) without too much difficulty beyond the standard burrocratic overhead. Probably as narrowly defined as possible. eg only www.ShareSite.tld/users/thecustomer/ if possible.
