Microsoft isn’t extending the support period for Windows 10, so consumers will need to pay for key security patches or upgrade their OS. Insert 25 cents to continue with your OS
Although I'm guessing it will be "significantly higher" than 25 cents.
“More details including pricing will be provided at a later date,” says Microsoft. <-- to be followed by the dun Dun DUN! music

I haven't heard of new boot sector viruses for years. I think that the market for new virus signatures for Win95 viruses is rather small, too. So why don't you all switch to Win11, leaving me alone with Win10. Noone is going to develop a virus for my machine only!

Does anyone else see the irony in this?
To help prevent the scourge of ransomware in computers with Windows 10, Microsoft will now implement ransomware in the security updates and patch process.
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
To put this in the perspective of "Lord of the Rings": Ransomware = Sauron; Microsoft = Saruman.

I'm trying to figure out why this is even news. Microsoft has done this for every NT based OS they've ever produced, all the way back to Windows NT 3.51.

I know they've had it for businesses, but this is the first time they're doing extended support for consumers (that I know of).
