TBH, I really am getting sick of hearing the astronomy world's fantasy cr@p.
E.g. they can tell us p1ss-all about Europa, Titan, and Callisto, but they're c**k-sure about microdots a million orders of magnitude further away.

I was going to post a link to images of the fattest people on Earth (thought it might be fun to start putting a menu together) but it even made me feel sick

No, "is" still works for "maths". It used to be seen as plural, but that usage is now obsolete *.
But "gets me" is definitely not an acceptable alternative.

The "s" on the end of "maths" is not obsolete. We haven't conceded that one to the septics yet!

I think you've misunderstood my point. I'm not saying that maths is obsolete; I'm saying that the idea that "maths" or "mathematics" is plural is obsolete.
So "maths is hard" is correct, and "maths are hard" is obsolete.
