After spending hours on a bug fix or a feature update, often the last thing we developers want to do is carefully explain the contents of the Git commit. For those that need an AI to write, "code change"

Or are they trying to say that it will be able to write down the why and what it solved automatically? Let me a bit about it, thanks

Aimed at the office, Amazon Q can summarize docs and assist with programming tasks. "If I ask a very simple question, do you think you might be able to answer it without it troubling your intellect too much?"
Oh joy! Another, "give us access to all your docs and internal applications, and we'll *help* you" service. Where do I sign up?
"Amazon Q is priced at $20 per user per month, which is lower than Microsoft and Google's enterprise AI solutions, which are priced at $30 per user per month" A bargoon!

Over the last few years, Microsoft has released its own lineup of Windows-based holiday ugly sweaters to help raise money for a number of good causes. Because nothing says the holiday season like a sweater that looks like the wallpaper on your parent's computer

Quote: , Microsoft is giving $100,000 of its proceeds from the sweater sales to The Nature Conservancy organization. [sarcasm]woohoo[/sarcasm] So a company that makes millions (or billions?) in profit, is asking us to buy crap and then it donates a portion, and they still make money from the sales! What BS. (sorry, this may be an inappropriate rant, lol)

Not for me they don't.

What kills me on this is the corporates worlds long running standard of seemingly preferring churn (employee turnover) to giving appropriate raises to existing employees doing anywhere from an applicable to a great job. I've been in tech for 20+ years and have seen this happen repeatedly across various industries (I was in Retail and property mgt before moving to IT).
If you have an existing employee named John Doe who's paid $100K annually and has been with the company for 10 years with no raise beyond cost of living adjustment and he wants a raise what do you do? While $100K was the going rate 10 years ago it's now $120K to hire someone to do the same job with equivalent experience/knowledge so your 10 year employee is only asking to be paid what they'd have to pay a new hire and yet what does the corporate world often choose? The churn option. It would make financial sense to do this if they can pay someone new less but that's not teh scenario I am describing. With inflation at record highs the last few years there are many employees in this kind of situation where they are being paid less than what a new hire would have to be paid yet if they ask for a raise the executive(s) will counter with half or less and if teh employee doesn't take it they choose to let them go. How incredibly dumb is that?
