If the leak occurs in the demo mode, there's no need to be there... but if it only occurs with the actual instrumentation, then yes, you're right, would probably need to be there.

Can the following idea succeed ? Would you collaborate ?
Companies rely on enterprise messaging applications like Skype and Communicator.
However, I worked on two big companies and realized a need that not quite accomplished by such software...
In fact, one often need to ask for something, as not evrything is documented. You know for sure that someone has the answer, but to find it it requires you to know them all and be able to talk to them directly...
This is not so true, as evry worker has a limited circle of collegues whom he can address easily.
Even with those close collegues, it is not appropriate to send a group chat and disturb them with that. Especially, when this becomes frequent.
With this in mind, I had the following idea, please share your point of view :
Imagine a small app, that you somehow share to all collegues and convince them to install ; Then you configure a list of "Topics" and each one can decide to subscribe to a topic. If someone posts a question/discussion about a topic that gets broadcasted to all list of subscribers who see a Tray notification. they can click the icon and reply in real time.
This would be useful, wouldn't it ?

Just something additional to think about, not directly a verdict; the experience below is based on a single company, and others will react in a different way.
We tried something similar at a previous employer; we used email - it's quite easy to select the intended recipients, and the infrastructure was already there. Popups were provided by Outlook and/or the Messenger service. Sounded like a great idea, but it ended a disaster.
What happened is that some of the devs answered "immediately", or that the manager came in when answering "took to long". The popup was distracting, and responsibility for features or problems was moved using the system. Within two days, I routed the mails to a label, only looking at them during a lunchbreak or whenever I refilled the coffee. Killed the mobile phone, closed the door, gained back my productivity. The tray-icon nowadays does not even show the virus-scanner; I've had it with software that yanks me out of flow by stealing the focus.
I've often longed for software where we could "share" knowledge internally, and where people can participate in discussions. From my previous experience, I'd rather go for an internally hosted blog, and have people participate voluntarily, when it suits them.
To be fair; it was not the technology that made it a disaster, only the way we used it. It could have worked, if the mails would be treated the way we treated the mails from the bugreporting-system.

I could see how using Outlook would be distracting... some people see the pop-ups and have this urge to address it immediately. I keep my Outlook closed most of the time for that very reason, to avoid the distraction.
The forum idea is good, although I've seen other people already doing something like that. I believe someone posted screen captures of theirs here on CP.

I think I would agree with Eddie's comments on the usefulness of something that becomes a distraction and that people eventually learn to ignore. The forum idea is probably a better choice and it wouldn't require anyone installing anything (ideal for people/offices that work with multiple operating systems).

Hello, apologies for such a bold opening post but I have been advised by a friend that works in the coding industry to make this post here. I am not completely sure whether this is the right sub-forum for this post so further apologies if this post is not in the correct forum-category.
Headline points:
- App developer required
- Skill swop,
- London based,
Hi,
I am looking for an App developer to assist me in building an App that can be sold over itunes and other similar forums. I envisage that the App will be similar to an e-book in that it will provide information to its users. The App will also provide links to various websites and offer a simple tool for the App downloader to use. I do not envisage that the App will be particularly flashy or have fancy graphics, it will probably be similar in design to the eBay App in layout and navigation. Music is not requirement. I personally have little knowledge about App development at the moment but I imagine that this would be a relatively simple App to build as it will primarily be an information bank.
Without disclosing too much information on this project, the App will be related to the property industry and provide up to date information on the sector. I.e., The App will assist its users in matters related to the property industry.
To achieve this I am seeking an individual, rather than an organisation, to work on this project with. In essence I am looking for a partner. I cannot pay you for this work and I therefore propose that we enter into a skill-swop. I will provide the content for the App and you, the developer, will build, manage and import the content. I do however want involvement in the design and layout of the App.
About myself: I am a 25 year old graduate working in central London, I have been working in the property industry for several years and am currently employed. This project for me would be an evening and weekend project. I am not considering quitting my day job for this project at all and see it as surplus to my career.
If you're interested in working with me on this project please drop me an email to richardpillow13@hotmail.com with a few lines about who you are and your experience. I would like to work with someone who:
- Is of a similar age range to myself (18 - 29)
- London Based (Central & North-West preferable),
- Experience in multi-format App development,
- Experience in listing apps for sale,
- Someone creative. If you know how to use a tool like photoshop that would be very helpful.
Any profits created by sale of the App will be shared. Profit sharing levels are up for discussion!
Kind regards,
Richard

I would reason that my post was not an advert. I'm trying to find a project partner from the coding world and in doing so looking on a website dedicated to coding is a good place to look.

Hi again,
Thank you for your reply. I have read over the rules and would still reason that I am not advertising anything. I am simply seeking a buesiness partmer for a project. Surely the ultimate goal in much coding is to make money, or promote something, be it a game or whatever else. I am not asking anyone to buy anything from me, nor am i trying in anyway to sell something.
The rules state "No advertising or soliciting". I feel i'm doing neither but if the view of the powers that be feel I am, i sincerely apologise for causing disruption here on your forum.
If you want to continue this conversation please can you PM me.
Warm regards,
Richard

Richard2525 wrote: "No advertising or soliciting". I feel i'm doing neither As someone who only joined today you get forgiven for that. I merely pointed out the protocol, which becomes clearer the more time you spend here.

Repost from the C++ forum.
We have started a MapWindow Summer of Code 2012.
We focus this year on the C++ part of MapWindow GIS.
We already have defined several tasks and we have matching budget (however it is not much, we are a voluntary community).
We are now looking for C++ developers that are willing to fulfill the tasks.
Of course you need to have some good experience in C++, knowing something about GIS is also very useful.
Please go to http://www.mapwindow.org/SummerOfCode/2012/[^] for more information.

As per the the title, I am taking over a project from QIOS DevSuite which included many useful free controls such as a Winforms Ribbon Control etc..
I want to keep this control free to the public, but I can't do it all on my own!! The reason for my post is, I am trying to build a community of volunteers to help with future development (like how phpbb is developed now) and support.
Currently QIOS have taken the control off line, but they have so far provided me with the forum and previous data etc.. So, if this is of interest as a small hobby then please get in contact with me at www.qdevsuite.com[^].
Here is a link to screen shot of the qdevsuite http://www.qdevsuite.com/home3.gif[^]
Thank you

Hi Dan,
I've just been to your website and your controls look amazing!
I'm part of a large Open Source GIS Community: MapWindow GIS (www.mapwindow.org[^])
For the next version (v4.9) we not only want to rewrite the GUI but also restyle it.
It seems using your controls will do most of this tedious task
I'm not sure about your license but it seems we can use your controls. If we do I cannot guarantee you developing time but I can give you a lot of testing time: MapWindow GIS has a 10,000+ user-base.
I'm looking forward hearing from you if you are interested in this kind of collaboration.
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul
Your more than welcome to use the controls. The licence information can be found here http://www.qdevsuite.com/licensing/[^], but basicly it states the controls can be used freely.
If you want to contact me directly, use the contact us on the main web page and this will email me directly
Thanks

Hi Dan,
The QIOS set of controls looks fantastic. I actively develop several popular freeware tools (see link in my sig) and would like to help when I have some free cycles. My current ETA is towards the end of the year (that's probably longer than you'd like), but please keep me in mind.
Thanks,

Okay, somthing new. I have designed, and developed a prototype, medical robotic platform. It has the capability to take Blood Pressure, test diabetics, and even do EKG's. All of the medical reporting equipment has been verified by Doctors, and Nurses, as being accurate. The Device is being built as an interface between Veterans and the Veterans Administration medical center. I call it Val or Valerie. The acronym is V.H.A.L. which is [V]eterans [H]ealth [A]ssist [L]ink. I am now starting to build the voice menu for the Robot. The unit has a Kinect sensor which means it has a microphone array. My problem is this. I would like to build a limited amount of A.I. along with the robotic commands for movement. With the Kinect unit I also have the capability for voice distinction along with Facial feature recognition. I need a kick in the butt to get going. I would appericiate any help from any source if there is anyone out there that would care to help.

Not to kick you while you're demotivated, but, there are some big challenges ahead of you. I tried to do some similar product ideas in the health arena, and there are two things that will quickly become the bane of your existence. Just wanted to share these with you so that you don't get surprised later on:
1) FDA Medical Device Clearance: If it's a device, and used in health care, chances are that it needs some type of approval/clearance. If it touches a human in any way (like blood pressure, EKG's, etc) you are guaranteed that you will need approval before you can sell or make claims. Here is a resource to help: http://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/DeviceRegulationandGuidance/default.htm[^]
2) Health Insurance Payment Authorization: If Doctors/Nurses can't charge it back to an insurance provider in some way, good luck getting them to use it. First, you will need the FDA approval on the device. Then, you will need to hunt down people who can make these decisions (if they actually exist). Many of them will say that they just follow medicare payment guidelines for DME (durable medical equipment) payments. So then you try to get a determination from CMS (center for medicare/medicaid services)... HA! Then, you will need to make your case as to why your device is better than all the rest, and how it will improve patient outcomes. To do that, you need clinical studies... to do that, you need doctors interested in actually being a part of the research (it is quite a commitment), then you will need funding for the research, so you begin writing a grant proposal. Then, you will need to buy a wig because you have pulled out all of your hair.
Also, on the payment front, if you try to make the argument of physician oversight billing for time spent reviewing results from the device, you may be out of luck. Physician oversight payments for tele-health are pretty restricted.
