I did not make myself sufficiently clear. I have a list box in a dialog. Depending on an argument to the constructor of the dialog, I want to make this list box either single selection or multi-selection. However, once the selection style is set, It will not change for till the dialog is dismissed. In the resource editor, I'll set selection type to be 'single selection'. Depending on the argument to the constructor, I want to modify the selection type to 'Multi-Selection'. Is there a simple way of doing this without recreating the ctrl or deriving a class from CListBox.
I tried ModifyStyle(0, LBS_MULTIPLESEL) in the OnInitDialog() of the dialog. This did not work. Hence this post.

"Depending on an argument to the constructor of the dialog..." Well, if you have dialog on the resource it will have the styles specified in resource editor, how can you change it? It doesnot create dialog like window. It loads it from the resource.
Well, another option - create 2 dialogs in resource editor with different styles and load appropriate dialog from the resource.

In a ATL Com DLL Project, for every component, an RGS file is generated.Also, a TLB file is generated when an IDL file is compiled.This TLB file is referred in the RC file of the ATL Com project.If I use a RGS file to register a component explicitly, Do I still need to include the TLB file as part of the project?
OR, can i delete the reference to the TLB file from the RC file and remove the TLB file from the project?

Hi,
The RGS and TLB files are important parts of the project. The TLB file is generated each time you compile your IDL file and the RGS file is generated when you add a component using the wizard.
You have these files in your project but you don't have to ship them with your DLL because they are integrated inside the DLL as a resource.
The RGS resource is used for component registering and the TLB is used for the interface information access.
I don't know why you decided to delete the TLB... But I recommend you NOT to do that.

when i drawed a couple of CEdit boxes on my little CControlbar, i lost my normal tab feature within the CControlbar , i guess it's understandable 'cause CControlbar has it's own taborders on the screen now, but is there an easy to keep this feature within the CControlBar or CDialogBar ?

I'm confused; are you trying to scroll the browser control, or the contents of the explorer bar which holds a browser control and other things? The first is already implemented by the browser control, just let it do its job. The later requires you to create scollbar window objects and move them where you want and to create a window proc to handle the scrolling messages.

Ok, I have created an Explorer Bar. I have created a window using AxWindow on the top of an Explorer Bar. This AxWindow hosts web browser control ( using IWebBrowser2) and displays one html file. And when you click on links, it displays as in defaulr browser. So basically I have two browsers ( IEs) same time. One in default and other inside Exlorer Bar. I am not touching default broweser. I want to create scroll bars for Explorer bar so I can move document inside it. Is it possible using IHTMLWindow2 and IHTMLDocument2 interfaces?? I am using ATL. Or is there any other way?? I have IWebBrowser2 interface for Explorer bar's browser too.

Is there any way I can access Explorer Bar window from HTML? For example, we can access IE's Search window or main window using _Search or _main. Can i give my Explorer bar a name like that???

It may have something to do with the fact that the variable m_strFile should be a filename, not a folder. I'm not exactly sure why it wouldn't come up, but that's my first clue.

Also, the second parameter should probably not have the "*." part.
I have always just used the extension letters, such as "TXT" or "DAT" or "TAB". I never use the "*." part of the extensions.
Your extra extension text could be causing some sort of strange internal error.

The problem seems to be the Filename I put in:
m_strFile
The FileDlg. want to put the c:\ into the file Filename...
...it notice that c:\is not a valid filename and returns.
I can force the dlg with OFN_NOVALIDATE not to close itself. This is fine ...
...but where I can put in the Initial folder?

There have been numerous postings about controlling MSWord from C++. I am trying to do global Find and Replace on a document. The following code only does replace in the document body, bypassing headers and footers. When I do Find/Replace from Word interface, everything gets replaced including headers and footers. So my goal is to make the following code do replace in the entire document including headers and footers.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I would like to design an application that has a caption bar, menu bar, one or more toolbars, and a status bar. There is no document or data to be displayed in any view directly.
Does anyone know of a sample application like this? It is similar to the way VB looks in what is called its SDi mode I think.
Or any pointers as to how to do this would be helpful. I thought of creating an SDI application and limiting the view frame size but I am not sure if this is the best way, or how to do it!

Do you mean some application that has different windows not united by main window, like Delphi?
If so, I think you can use function CreateDialog() and create a number of dialogs in different places of the screen.

I am trying to programatically update the version information in a dllI am using
Beginupdateresouce
updateresource
Endupdateresource.
The functions always suceed but the resource is not updated. Is there any program or code which is available in the net to do this. any thoughts will be greately appreciated. I am running the program on NT.

Well, I was unable to update resource also. I've just got the same second resource with the ID like I've wanted to update, but it appeares like I had 2 resources instead of 1 updated.

This happened to me also.
However, I tracked it down to not setting the locale correctly when I saved the resource back to the file.
You can load the resource specifying a generic language identifier... "If this parameter is MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL, SUBLANG_NEUTRAL), the current language associated with the calling thread is used."
When you go to save it, however, the language ID better match what was in the file in the first place or else you will end up with another resource stuffed into the file with a different language identification associated with it!
The resources in my file are tagged with the following:
LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US

I figured it out!
You MUST free the library prior to using the BeginUpdateResource, UpdateResource, EndUpdateResource sequence.
Even though update always truly failed when library was loaded in memory, no errors were indicated or returned!
Here is pseudo-code sequence...
LoadLibraryEx <- no need to execute dll entry point
FindResourceEx
LoadResource
LockResource <- gets pointer to data
SizeofResource <- how much data you got
...allocate memory to hold modifiable copy of resource data
...make copy of resource data into memory block
FreeLibrary <- important to do it here
BeginUpdateResource
...modify resource data, or supply new data if you want
UpdateResource
EndUpdateResource
...deallocate memory you obtained earlier
That's it!
As a test, I was able to modify the fixed file version information (dwFileVersionMS and dwFileVersionLS fields
in the VS_FIXEDFILEINFO) and see that the changes had occurred.
