Using resources from a dll in an exported class

Hi,

I have an MFC extension dll, which exports a class. The class is actually CStatic derived and uses several instances of the CImageButton from this site.

That class is exported from the dll using MFC's AFX_EXT_CLASS macro, and imported into my main exe with the same.

I want the CImageButton's in the dll-class to use bitmap resources from the DLL. But, in the code for CImageButton, it uses ::LoadBitmap to actually load the resource, the first argument of which uses AfxGetInstanceHandle() to get the HINSTANCE of the app. Of course, AfxGetInstanceHandle returns the HINSTANCE of the exe, so it all goes pete tong.

The only workaround i've found it to use a global variable of type HINSTANCE in the dll, and in DllMain to set the global var to store the HINSTANCE. Then use that HINSTANCE in place of AfxGetInstanceHandle.

Whilst it works, it doesn't seem "right"- it seems a bit of a bodge.

Is there a better way?

I *think* you want to look into AFX_MANAGE_STATE(AfxGetStaticModuleState( )) - this will switch the state for you. You would put this call at the beggining of your function, BEFORE any resource calls (like LoadImage/LoadString, etc) are made.
It's possible you may want to use something other than AfxGetStaticModuleState() - look it up in MSDN - there are other variations on it if I remember right.

hi all,
I am developing a MFC Project.Now I want to display a light when clicking "Display Light" Button. I have a LED Bulb.
Procedure is like this:-
When I click "display Light" button,the LED(or a bulb) should be ON..otherwise LED should be OFF.

How do I do such a Task?. Is there a DLL or component to accomplish that task?
if any one know about that ,please help me? Frown | :(

is that a real buld/light/LED ? if so, there should be an API with some kind of external domotic controller ?

if not, what exactly you want to do ?

hi A bulb is connected to the Serial or Parrel port.Then I want to handdle the Bulb using a Application.That means display light and OFF.

How do I do this using Visual C++?

Open the image in Microsoft Paint and then use the saveAs option. I think it is under File.

Using a Spin Control with real numbers, but have a problem when the Up or Down spin is held down for a while.
The data increments/decrements but after a period (around 30 ~ 100) the sign of the data changes.

I am using my own routine to handle the increments/decrements via OnDeltaposSpinNewdata. The Autobuddy is set to false and the Set Buddy Integer is set to true (tried false but still the same).

C++ Runtime - different Instance in DLL?

I am not sure about this: When I have a DLL and an EXE compiled with VC, and the EXE loads the DLL, does each have it's own instance of the C runtime (i.e. the global variables like stdin, stdout, the heap, etc.)? Does this depend on compile settings?

Yes, that is why you should avoid using free() and the delete operator on pointers received from a dll.

Depends on compile settings[^]. If you choose to dynamically link CRT in all your modules (exe and dlls), it will be shared between them and it is safe to pass objects between modules.
