Having a problem with the following code:
DoCmd.OpenReport "Print - IncompleteMemosbyTeamLeader", acViewPreview,, _
"RequestTo = 'Tod O'Dell'"
Only recognises the String as Tod O instead of Tod O'Dell. Can someone please suggest a way to overcome this. I'm not a VB coder. I'm unfamiliar with VB. I assume you could declare Tod O'Dell as a string as would in C++ and use the VariableName. e.g.
C++ Example
String VariableName = "Tod O'Dell";
Your help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,
In the criteria, put it in a variable and use Replace function to replace the single quote found with 2 single quotes. Please find an example below to use the same with SQL Server.
Dim sSql As String
Dim sName As String
sName = "O'Leary"
sName = Replace(sName, "'", "''")
sSql = "Select * from authors where au_lname = '" & sName & "'"
Debug.Print sSql
Try executing the output of the above SQL statement in Query Analyser under Pubs database...

You can use the Replace function to replace a single quote with 2 single quotes...
Consider the following example:
sName = "Tod O'Dell"
sName = Replace(sName, "'", "''")
DoCmd.OpenReport "Print - IncompleteMemosbyTeamLeader", acViewPreview,, _
"RequestTo = '" & sName & "'"

As Ravi_Shankar pointed out (but not so clearly) the problem is that databases use single quotes (or apostrophes; your pick) to delmit the boundries of a string.
In order to support the use of single quotes/apostrophes in a string the SQL specification says that a double-single quote/apostrophe '' is used (not ").
So rather than the last line being
"RequestTo = 'Tod O'Dell'" you need to make it
"RequestTo = 'Tod O''Dell'" (note the use of the dobule-apostrophe)

With that code you can access to a existing sheet in a XLS file.

Hi All,
I would like to know how Intellisense editors are developed. I am currently
trying to build one for SQL. I have a placed a text box control in VB form. When ever user types characters inside the text box, I am populating keywords in a combo box depending on the characters entered. How ever I have a difficulty in follwoing the cursor inside the text box. Let me know how I can get the x and Y co-ordinates of a cursor inside a text box

Do you mean cursor or caret? The caret is the blinking beam you get when typing into the textbox. You'll have to use raw API for this, and here are the functions...

Hi Folks..
Im having a web form that has 2 select boxes.Now when one select box has a value chosen it must generate values for other select box.This can be accomplished by querying the dbase.Now to do this querying im using an ASP page.
1). My question is how do i run the ASP Page without it affecting the current window displaying my form??
2). Now my 2nd select box has to be refreshed for it to be populated with the values that the ASP Page generates.How can i refresh that control alone without touching the other contorls or rather refreshing the entire page..
Can someone give me links to articles regd this sort of stuff.I know im using a round about method..

Hi all,
I wrote a wrapper around an OCX (making it a dll) to make the interface simpler for others to program around the OCX.
The problem is that when I try to use the Package & Deployment Wizard to package it, I get this message: "Below is a list of files for which dependency information could not be found. To proceed without the dependency information for the file(s) listed, click OK. To permanently mark a file as having no dependencies, select its checkbox."
3 Questions:
1) Is it unwise to wrap a DLL around an OCX?
2) How do I create a dependency file for the DLL?
3) If I don't need a dependency file, how can I be sure before actually building the project and installing it on some bare bones PC?

Oh, yeah. I also get the dependency information message for:
dao360.dll.

Here are the answers to the questions I provided (If anyone cares.) Let me just say that everyone has a purpose in life and sometimes that purpose is to set an example. This is a case of an example of something to NOT do.

This could be argued for or against, i guess; but, be forwarned - It's a bitch to get the thing working in a distributable package. That being said, I killed the dll project.
So, for a newbie VB Programmer, Yes. Without a doubt - don't try it.
I'm sure someone knows how to do this, though it ain't me.

The package and deployment wizard has a dependency file wizard that works pretty well. It detected all the dependency information for another dll we wrote. However, the one I was working needed much more information than it could generate automatically. Since sometimes "less is more,' I'm going to end with that.

Now that I know a little bit more about dependency files, I'm no expert therefore I shall not even try to submit information to someone else on this as I may 'bum-dope' someone. I have my theories; but, they are largely untested.
In closing, it was a foolish idea to wrap an ocx in a dll and think that the interface I was writing would be 'easier.' But, hey, I learned something for it which is better than nothing.

OK.
Well, it was bugging me. I fixed my problem. Hmm, acutally, I worked around it. I wrote a script to copy the associated DLLs, TLBs and OCXs to the future installation directory then registered each and every one using regsvr32.
Then I ran the setup.exe. It worked great on systems that didn't contain any of the DLLs, TLBs or OCXs.

Hello all, I am having a bit of a problem with databases. Right now I have an application that stores data into an access database. But when the database goes over 2 gigs the application crashes out and it starts over writting the header file. Please give me some suggestions with using other database collectors, that would be a great help. Thanks
