Hello,
I have an inherited class from XmlElement with this name: XmlElementCF
I have added a function in XmlElementCF that returns a XmlNode.
I can cast the a node with the type od Element to XmlElement but
can not cast the node to XmlElementCF, I am getting an error
: Specified cast is not valid.
Here is my drived class:

i had downloaded "Instrumentation Widgets 3.0", added it as reference and set it as component in my vb.net web application.However the component appears in the toolbox in disabled form,how do i enable it?
Instrumentation Widgets is written in c#, windows based application.

Nope. It must be completely rewritten to work in a web page. Since the browser environment is very restricted and communication with whatever your monitoring is slow, there's little chance, if any, of this ever happening.

how can we create an executable file.
i.e.,. to run a c file with graphics(exe file) we need BGI file. but consider DAVE game it run without any supporting file, how it is possible....? can anybody help to create my own executable (c graphics exe file )file that run independently with out need of any supporting file...

Based on the reminder Colin gave me...
You'll have to rewrite the C .EXE. BGI stood for Borland Graphics Interface and supplied the library functions that the application used to draw a user interface on the screen. Since it was written in Borland C, you'll have to rewrite it so you can use Windows for its interface. That way, it won't need the supporting files, they're already built into Windows.

PC win2000 with network shared printer hp1320
Client:
PC win2000
When run print preview on client all is ok, but when run print from client
to server printer not print all (only print part of report = left and top
corner). Why?

I m getting the following exception for provider while importing an excel file and creating table with its column names in sql simultanously.If anyone can help out with it.

I need some help. I'm trying to construct a function in the best manner.
I have a class. This class wraps several API function calls. The function in question wraps NetServerEnum. As many of you know, NetServerEnum has a paramter called "level" this parameter dictates the level (amount and type) of information retrieved on each server.
Rather then creating multiple functions for each level I wanted to create one function that the code could call, passing what level to use. This part is fairly easy. Create a public enum in the class which sets the level value to 100 or 101 respectively. Now, where I run into the problem is the structure. The data returned from the function for each level has a different structure.
I have 2 structures that represent the levels and I have a class for each level that will hold the collected data.
I have no problem getting any of this to work if I limit the function to dealing with just one level. I'm not sure how to write the function to handle both levels. I've tried initially setting a variable to object then using DirectCast to cast the object to the correct structure based on the level passed. This just doesn't seem to be working right. Could someone please help me set this up properly???

You could try passing each type of structure to the function as ByRef parameters and then interpret which one to evaluate when the function returns based on the level parameter.

I think that would just confuse a developer. I know I would be confused if there were two extra parameters that I had to pass to a function because the function wasn't able to make up it's mind to do it.
I know there is a correct way to do this, I just don't know what it is. Microsoft does it with the NetServerEnum itself. There is only one function, but when you pass the level it knows to use the appropriate structure.

What the API does is pack all the data into a single byte array. Since each structure contains only DWORDs and LPWSTR pointers, they are always a fixed size - either 8 bytes or 24 bytes. (You are lucky, since each structure in this case is already DWORD aligned, you should not have to worry about padding bytes between structures).
The API splits the byte stream at the appropriate lengths based on level and puts each structure into an array.
This is easy to do in C++. Not so easy in NET.
Look at this website - search for "netenumserver" under the appropriate library section. There is an example of using the NetServerEnum API in C#.

Hey what's up everyone....
I have been trying to figure out how to get my applications to dock in windows. I have a bunch of apps that I would like to add that feature to but I can't figure out how. I would my apps to be able to dock in windows like you can dock the taskbar in windows. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreicate it.

first, you need to put all the forms as mdi children.
then in the mdi parent u do the following:

Hey people!
I’m trying to create something that will keep track of what I am printing to the network printer and also to add the SN to each printed page. In my understanding I need to “listen” on a local computer if the print job was sent to a specific printer, if yes then let say get or ask the user to type the Memo, and generate add-on SN to the file and then send it back to the printer. Obviously I don’t even close idea on how to do that in VB.net 
Can some one help me on that, thanks a lot!

First, not to scare you or anything, but you're in for one of the most problematic app's of your life.
The .NET Framework has nothing in it that will help you with this. You'll be P/Invoking the Win32 Spooler API's and will probably be writing an entire class library around them.
Also, the Spooler API's change event notification system CAN and WILL drop notification events if enough changes occur in a quick enough time. This means the possibility exists that you won't know that a print job was started. Also, you don't get instant notification of the events either. So, a job can start printing before you get the notification.
That doesn't even mention that probles your going to run into changing the job. BTW, what do you mean by "SN"?

SN - Serial Number (just for future reference, if I need to find the document or reverse look up in db)
If it is so complicated is there a way around? Dont I first send a job and than print it?

No. The job (by default) can be sent to the printer as it's still spooling. What you see in the job is not GDI code, it's the language the printer understands, whether it's PostScript, PCL, RAW, whatever.
