Changing Boot Disc James Spibey5-Jul-02 22:53 James Spibey 5-Jul-02 22:53  I've a Windows 2000 Server which currently has two phyiscal hard disks. The partitons look a little like this:- Disk 1 (60GB) ======= c:\ 2GB (used to be Win98) Boot Partition d:\ 30GB (mirrored onto disk 2) e:\ 10GB (Windows 2000 Server System Partition) f:\ 18GB (stuff) Disk 2 (30GB) ======== 30GB mirror of d:\ What I want to do is copy d:\ to a new 60GB disk, use Disk 2 as the system boot partition, and then mirror my new 60GB disk onto the current disk 1. Is is imperitive that the Windows 2000 installation is not corrupted in any way as it runs my entire network. Can anyone give any pointers about the best way to do this? During installation after copying files from the CD-ROM to the hard disk the computer needs a restart. This is normal. What is not normal is that after the restart the installation begins from the very beginning with copying files to the hard disk again. I suspect (but I may be wrong) that the BIOS settings are wrong. I tried CD-ROM and hard disk as first and second boot devices but the same problem persists. Could somebody give me please a pointer? Anyway, at first I thought you might be installing Windows on secondary partition, and some versions of windows need to be installed in primary partition. But AFAIK this is true for Win95/98 only. My suggestion would be: Get a Win95/98 startup disk. Use fdisk utilty to delete all partitions, format them all and try to reinstall Win2k. You might want to try to use "fdisk /mbr" as well which will restore Master Boot Record. Apart from this I have no idea. It was a hardware problem, both my memory and my video card were erratic and I've lost the count XP corrupted my registry. Since I changed my video card and my memory I never had a single problem. There is no such service that is part of Win2k, but SMTP protocol is very straight forward. Sorry I don't know much about ASP, however here is a list of smtp commands: Connect to your ISP mail server on port 25. execute the following commands: MAIL FROM: email@domain.com RCPT TO: recipient@domain.com DATA email message . QUIT Remeber a "." before QUIT is needed so that your e-mail will be accepted for delivery and each time a command is entered a CR/LF (done by pressing enter key) will need to be send to the SMTP server.
