Hi Mark,
Thanks for the tip. SQL Server will be the next step, after I get the Access version working.
Because Access is popular in the schools where I work, I am focusing on it for now. This project entails a big web (and to a lesser extent, VS) learning curve for me. My SQL Server is rusty, too (versions 6/7).
Somehow I have to find time to teach the kids, too ... one step at a time.
Thanks,
Joe

Am developing a web application wherein I have a label in master page which has to get value from the web pages. When I develop a web site, I used to put a method in App_Code.
How do I do it here? Any particular approach to be taken?
Thanks,

I'm a bit of an ASP newbie, but I'd either use javascript embeded in the master page or use the findcontrol method to obtain the control I need to modify/retrieve data from.
In both cases, you'll need to know the ID of the control you're looking for.
Yet another option is to search through Page.Controls for the control.
Hope that helps!

So, I've been dabbling in web development lately and decided to put drop down boxes in a header of a gridview in asp. One problem: since the gridview has 13 columns, I need to keep the drop down fairly small. Firefox takes this rather well. It expands the options inside the select despite the set width of their parent. IE7, on the other hand, isn't smart enough to do this and renders the options with the same width as their parent.
That said there are several solutions out there that involve using divs and radials to emulate select box behavior, and from there one could easily emulate drop down behavior. I think I'll take this approach and make a web control that utilizes the technique.
But my solutions are overly laborious. I'd like to know what solutions the Code Project would take for these shortcomings of IE.

Hello all,
I was wondering how to change the opacity of an image tag in Firefox, Opera, and Safari with a javascript. I figured out how to do it in IE. I also know that the style for the opacity is opacity or -moz-opacity. It works with IE but not in the other browsers. I believe that it should work but I must be missing something. So if anyone could take a look at this and see if you could find what I am over looking.
Thanks
Chad Dolan
Here is the script I wrote.
var current;
var interval;
var newImage = new Image();
var browser = navigator.appName;
var b_version = navigator.appVersion;
var version = parseFloat(b_version);
function fade(id, new_src)
{
current = document.getElementById(id);
newImage.src = new_src;
if(browser == "Microsoft Internet Explorer")
{
interval = setInterval("makeFadeOutIE()", 10);
}
else
{
interval = setInterval("makeFadeOutOther()", 10);
}
}
function makeFadeOutIE()
{
if(current.filters.alpha.opacity > 0)
{
current.filters.alpha.opacity = current.filters.alpha.opacity - 5;
}
else
{
if(window.interval)
{
clearInterval(interval);
current.src = newImage.src;
interval = setInterval("makeFadeInIE()", 10);
}
}
}
function makeFadeInIE()
{
if(current.filters.alpha.opacity < 100)
{
current.filters.alpha.opacity = current.filters.alpha.opacity + 5;
}
else
{
if(window.interval)
{
clearInterval(interval);
}
}
}
function makeFadeOutOther()
{
if(current.style.opacity > 0)
{
current.style.opacity = current.style.opacity - .05;
}
else
{
if(window.interval)
{
clearInterval(interval);
current.src = newImage.src;
interval = setInterval("makeFadeInOther()", 10);
}
}
}
function makeFadeInOther()
{
if(current.style.opacity < 1)
{
current.style.opacity = current.style.opacity + .05;
}
else
{
if(window.interval)
{
clearInterval(interval);
}
}
}

Tried downloading a file on a specific location in a Non-proxy environment using InternetOpenURL() and InternetReadFile() API's. This worked fine.
But when i try the same in Proxy Environment it fails. I tried doing HttpQueryInfo() and then checking the status for HTTP_PROXY_AUTH_REQD. This is successful but when i set the username and password for Proxy Authentication and retry, it still gives me status as HTTP_PROXY_AUTH_REQD. If I continue downloading the file then junk characters are downloaded and written to the file.
Need help to make InternetOpenURL work in a Proxy Environment. (Please note that Proxy Server Details are not present with my application and i cannot bypass the Proxy Server)
Thanks in advance.
Ravi.

Hi,
I want to display 1-4 imagaes next to other with text beneath each image, so my code looks like:
<ul class="ns">
<li><img src="Images/TestCategory.jpg" /></li>
<li><img src="Images/TestCategory.jpg" /></li>
</ul>
..then the images are next to each other, but when I change it to:
<ul class="ns">
<li><img src="Images/TestCategory.jpg" />Laptops</li>
<li><img src="Images/TestCategory.jpg" />Laptops</li>
</ul>
.. the text is to the right of each image. I want it directly beneath it. I have tried to put the Laptops text in a <p></p> but then it shifts the images beneath each other, I want the images next to each other. I have even tried to use a <br /> but also does not work.
Here are my styles:
img{border:solid 1px #ddd;}
ul.ns{margin: 0;padding: 0;}
ul.ns li{display:inline;list-style:none;margin: 0;padding: 0;}
Please can someone help? An example that I am looking to achieve is at:

Assuming your images are all of the same size (?) - say 150px you could try adding:
float:left;text-align:center;width:152px;
to your
ul.ns li
style

Thanks for this. I placed this inside another parent div with it's own styling, and my div inside this div works fine till I use a float, like in you code. Then the inside div seems to go over the outer div. What can I do so that the outside div expands to the size of the div inside it?
|
|
|
|
|
god knows - I'm not really an expert on CSS (in fact I hate the stuff...) - have you specified a width for the outer div? Maybe remove that, if so...
|
|
|

I did a clear:both in a div beneath it and it works fine in FireFox. I need to test it in the other browsers as well.

Hi,
I have this old Web Application built using ASP. There is a common page for some reports where the users make the selections. Then it goes to the specific pages, where the user provides input for the report, then submits them (document.form1.submit()).
I am adding a new report using SQL Reporting. the Page is already there, built by that common page.
The problem is: if I put it in the Form's action - it goes to that specific location, like - my report is in "http://abc/ReportServer/blabla/reportviewer.aspx.." and when I run it, it tries to run from "http://www.xyz.com/reports/abc/ReportServer/blabla........"
See the problem? Because I can not change the common page where there are all the layouts and codes to process user inputs for all the report pages. On the other hand, I want to send the user inputs for processing as well, but to my SQL ReportServer.
Is there any way around it? At least, I want to directly run the SQL Report without worrying about the user inputs for now.
Thanks.
Ekjon.

It's hard to do in .NET but you may use Firefox macro recorder to record the input and play back if you want.
