Unfortunately, you're at the mercy of the XPath engine used by your browser. Since each browser has its own implementation, this can vary.

Thanks to a pretty helpful XPath analyzer that uses IE, and a lot of trial and error, I finally found an expression that returns exactly what I want. Just FYI here is what it looks like:
var ProductType = xmlDoc.selectSingleNode("//cardSKU[./card[@region='" + RegName + "']]/@cardtype");
I had tried using recursive notation in other expressions but I didn't think that would work since I was using something like //card[@region="something"]/./cardSKU[@cardtype] which of course doesn't work since the . has to be on the left of the /.
Anyway thanks to all for the help, roadblock cleared!

Hi everyone,
I have a question with Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server Reporting 2005. My client already has a Sql Server 2005 license
which has SQL Server Reporting. The development team is developing a website using Visual Studio 2008. When we launch SQL
Server Business Intelligence Studio to create a new SQL Server report, it opens Visual Studio 2005, not 2008? Why is that?
Does this mean we have to scrap developing the site with 2008 and use 2005? Is there a way to continue using 2008 and
associate Business Intelligence Studio with VS2008?
Thanks!
John

You could try creating the project in BI Studio and then opening it in VS 2008. But if that doens't work I wouldn't say scrap 2008. You should be able to develop and test the reports in BI studio, and develop the application in 2008, it might be a little inconvenient but that's no reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Hi
Currently we have a company private network containing lots of comps and our sql server
A hosting company has our website on their web server outside of our private network
What ways are there to connect from the web server to sql server.
We looked at port forwarding but that wasn't very secure
What other ways or techniques are there to do this.
I have searched the net but most techniques recommend port forwarding
thanks in advance

Can anyone recommend some good, online tutorial resources for the Firefox Web Developer add-in? I use bits of it often, but just as often, when I want to something, I am overwhelmed by choices and or output. I'd like to really master things like picking up styling etc. off existing pages. This is not because I wish to plagiarise other people's work, but often I have to make my work look the same as others. Several nested includes etc. proscribe me just looking at the page source.

A good place to start is just using the View CSS tool to dump all of the styles into one page.
After that, i actually prefer using FireBug's inspector to examine how individual styles are applied to page elements.

We are currently looking into migrating a sponsored client's website into a new CMS (we trade web site maintenance and development for advertising and other perks). The current one has become unstable over the years and is overdue for an upgrade.
Because we have a limited annual budget, if the client could do some of the maintenance work it would be ideal. Their new IT guy is supposed to know PHP (new IT guy, so I haven't gotten to know his abilities yet).
Requirements are the ability to create custom modules, secure, free (or cheap, anyway), and able to handle high traffic volume. We have a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 box with 2Gb RAM.
Any recommendations?

Here is my text area. It looks fine in IE (6.0 and 7.0), but in Firefox, the size is tiny.
<textarea name="Description" id="Description" style="height:100px;width:400px;"></textarea>
When I view page html source in Firefox, all I can see is
<textarea name="Description" id="Description" ></textarea>
Where did the style go?

As the generated html code is different, the problem is with how the html code is generated.
What kind of server platform are you using? ASP.NET? ASP? PHP? JSP?

ASP.NET
Two browsers are accessing the same application, they should get the same html, right? I am not doing anything that distinguishes browser types.

If the code is exactly as you have posted it, then this should not occur. Do you have runat="server" in the control, is it perhaps really an asp:TextBox tag?
Xiangyang Liu wrote: I am not doing anything that distinguishes browser types.
No, but ASP.NET might. Server controls are rendered differently depending on the browser.

Yes, I used server control. If this turns out to be the fault of ASP.NET then it all makes sense, otherwise how is it possible for IE to beat the ever popular FireFox?

Hi!
I upgraded to Crystal Reports 2008 a few days ago, and ever since then I can't get the viewer to work, neither on my own machine with ASP.NET Development server or on a webserver.
The webpage comes up blank with a "Done, but with errors on page", with error message "bobj is undefined".
I´ve searched the web and found that the problem lies with the crystalreportviewers12-directory, that it´s either missing or that a virtual directory pointing at the directory is missing. Nevertheless, despite following exact steps as recommended by the developer of Crystal Reports themselves, I can´t get it to work. Has anyone else had this issue and solved it? Or does anyone have an idea of what it might be?
/Regards
