HI friends,
I have a web application written using .Net framework 3.5. The applications runs good when running under visual studio. I have installed it on my local machine. Just to be able to host my many applications I have assigned Host name to my application: www.crm_web.com and then in the hosts file in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc directory on my local machine I have included
127.0.0.1 www.crm_web.com which tells the system to look into the system itself for the crm_web.com host name. This all is fine.
Now when through my browser on my local machine I write www.crm_web.com and access the website it runs fine. But when I try to do the same thing using www.crm_web.com/default.aspx the applications doesn't runs properly at all. Infact I am even not able to login into the site. (Default.aspx is a login page and the start up page.) For me it is very necessary that I am able to properly access the website through www.crm_web.com/default.aspx also coz I need to add querystring parameters to this URL. e.g www.crm_web.com/default.aspx?name='gaurav'
Looking forward for some help.
Thanks and Regards,
Gaurav

I'm trying to understand this stuff:
If I have a URL of 'www.mywidgets.com/smallwidgets', then smallwidgets is a subdirectory under the domain www.mywidgets.com. Is that correct? The 'smallwidgets' subdirectory is part of the www.mywidgets.com website. Is that correct? Can 'smallwidgets' be a separate website with it's own domain name and widget database and processing logic and etc?
If I have a URL of 'www.mywidgets.smallwidgets.com', then smallwidgets is a subdomain of www.mywidgets.com. Is that correct? In this case, is smallwidgets a separate website? Can it be a separate web site with its own database/logic/etc if I have a domain name of www.smallwidgets.com and point it to www.mywidgets.smallwidgets.com?
Do these questions make sense or am I still too confused to ask coherent questions?
The reason I'm asking is I'm a hobby developer (C#, winforms) with a small business selling collectible stamps. I want a web presence (besides eBay), to expand the business and to expand my knowledge of web development. My budget is as close to zero cost as I can make it. I want (I think) at least two independent 'websites', say www.mystore.com for the public and www.mydevelopmentstore.com for just me, each with it's own SQL database. I'm having a terrible time figuring out what hosting I need to buy. It's obvious to me that if I buy two separate hosting plans I can do what I want, but I'm trying to figure out if I can get away with just one.

The URI is constructed as : <scheme name> : <hierarchical part> [ ? <query> ] [ # <fragment> ] ; see here[^].
In your example The domain is mywidgets.com with the server called www .
Everything after the slash - smallwidgets - must be served up by the web-site and that becomes implementation specific. You can use redirects to different sites without exposing it outside.

What userlist, are we supposed to guess what it is you are trying to obtain?
pixohp3 wrote: what ur asking is not an option
Why is that, are you attempting to hack into this site?
Your question is so vague as to suggest that whatever you are trying to do is either illegal or, at best, unethical. If you have a valid reason for extracting publicly available information from this site then explain exactly what it is and people will try to help you.

So you are trying to hack into that site; not only that but you bet your friends that you could do it, and then expect someone else to break the law for you. You will get no assistance from anyone on this site, I'm afraid. Don't forget also that the management of The Kenya National Examinations Council[^] will have no trouble in identifying you if you do happen to break in. Enjoy your time in jail.

Hi All,
I'm trying to setup a Web application in IIS 7. At the moment we have a WebSite setup www.URLHere.com. Within this WebSite we want to setup another application, for example "app1" so that it can be accessed using the URL www.URLHere.com/app1. The WebSite is setup and running fine. The problem is when it comes to setting up the sub application, when I browse to the application the error message "500 - Internal server error" is displayed. I believe I carried out the correct steps as I created a basic aspx file and set that up as a test and was able to view it in the browser through, www.URLHere.com/Test.
Should I be setting this up as an Application or a Virtual Directory? What could be causing the 500 error to be shown?
Any help on this would be really appreciated.
Thank you

I've since realized that the www.URLHere.com website uses the .NET Framework 2.0 and the app1 uses 3.5. So instead of setting the application up as Virtual Directory (as your unable to choose the application pool with VDs) I thought I needed to add an Application, this way I can create an Application Pool that uses the .NET Framework 3.5 and use it. Please correct me if this strategy is incorrect.
The problem is even though there is a 3.5 folder in the Microsoft folder 3.5 isn't an option when creating an Application Pool, only 2.0 and "No Managed Code". When trying to download 3.5 from the Microsoft website I receive "Setup Error" message, I'm guessing this is because 3.5 is already installed on the server.
Am I going down the correct path? Any ideas how I resolve this issue?
Thank you

I am currently at work and we have our network of computers. We have a few servers running Windows Server 2003. One of them crapped out and someone simply hooked up a new system, transferred the old data and set the new system up with the same name on the network. This server also hosts an instance of MS SQL Server 2008 Express.
The issue, however, is that all the computers in the network must now connect to the SQL Server using its IP Address, rather than the computer name. When I ping by IP it resolves the computer name correctly. However, when I ping the computer name it gives me the server's OLD IP Address.
How can we correct this?

Check your DNS settings and source.

Few steps to find a resolution:
- Go to your DNS or WINS server and flush the name/IP of the old machine from there.
- Its also possible to store it as a static IP from there (in name resolution server) so make sure its not stored as a static address.
- Finally, make sure none of your computers have an entry in the hosts file directing them to the old IP address.
Good luck!

I did check the hosts file on the affected systems, none of which contained any entries in them. We also do not have actual access to our DNS servers. That is only accessible by corporate IT. It's no big deal though. I just changed the software to use the IP address of the server rather than the computer name. And I had to manually update them (only the one time; my application updates itself when it has a valid server path). So the worst part of it is over. :-P
Thank you for the responses though.

Good Day All
i have a IIS server. This IIS Server is publicly available , so i have hosted some WCF services in that server , i can access the URL from outside my network, but i can use it. the url that i access it with is
http://196.XX.XXX.XXX:8095/datalayer/[^]
but now looking at the link to generate the metadata is different, it does not use an IP
svcutil.exe http:
so this makes it not accessible via the wcftestclient or even if i try to make add a reference in my applications in VS
What settings in the IIS do i need to change ?
Thanks

I recently completed an SBS2011 install for a pal, and as usual the system put the users profile on the system drive at "c:\users\"
I am looking to move the profiles over to a different volume on the same server, but I cannot see an easy way to transfer the existing profiles. I can see the settings that need to be changed for defaulting any users from this point forward, but not moving existing users.
Any ideas??anybody got a simple cheat sheet? I have search google till I am blue in the face, and I come up with is migrating users from one server to another. Maybe just not coming up with the correct keywords.
This must be a common scenario problem........

Hello,
I have the following problem:
I need to setup a Web Site (with IIS 7.0 on Windows Server 2008 R2) which hosts a WPF XBAP application.
The users should end up just entering the normal address (http:..) and loading the application.
I did install the MIME extensions and all the rest to run XBAP from server.
It did work fine for a few weeks now but I ran into this:
- I ran under another workstation then mine (to test the DB access) and it told me the SQLServer cannot be found (the connection goes with server/port and with a specific SQL User ID + Password combination).
Now after a cleaning and republish each time I start I get or the message "Forbidden access (403)" even with anonymous access rights or that an application with the same manifest is already installed (just got deleted...). I tried some googleling but I wasn't very successfull, seems that XBAP is not very pleased.
Did anyone had the same problem? What did I do wrong, surely in the publish settings.
Any advice is wellcome.
