I started reading about synchronizing SQLServer CE. It involves IIS, shadow folders and SQL Server 2000.
What if all our data is on Oracle? Without going too deep, is there a way for IIS to use that instead?
I have no IIS experience. If there is a way to avoid that I'd prefer it.

Hi!
I try to develop my first PDA application, and it works fine, until I not use database functionality.
I try to manage an access database via ODBC, but System.Data.ODBC is missing in my mobile solution, what do I need to make this work?
Need solution for Win Mobile 5, and 2003 too.
Or is there better format, or way for databases on PDA?
I have Visual Studio 2005 Professional, and SQLExpress 2005.
If somebody have links for PDA sourcecodes please send to me.
Thanks for help!

Please read this from MSDN.
In .NET Compact Framework applications, the following options are supported but not working and are currently reserved for future use: AcceptConnection, ReceiveLowWater, ReceiveTimeout, SendLowWater, SendTimeout, and Type.
I am trying to set ReceiveTimeout using SetSocketOption, but throwing exception.
Pls advise the alternate way to set socket receive timeout.
Thanks

Hello All,
I'm using cf 2.0 on the emulated ppc 2003 device that is bundled with vs2005. For some reason, when I attempt to connect to my database it throws a sqlexception error with no error message. My code is as follows:
SqlCeEngine engine = new SqlCeEngine("Data Source='\\Program Files\\UCPS\\UPCS.sdf';");
if (!(File.Exists("\\Program Files\\UCPS\\UPCS.sdf")))
engine.CreateDatabase();
SqlCeConnection connection = new SqlCeConnection(engine.LocalConnectionString);
connection.Open();
I can connect to the database on the device just fine. The database has no password. In this code sample, it does indeed find the UPCS.sdf file in the second line and does not try and create a new one. But when I try to open the connection, it errors out with no message. The only data I have is
HResult = -2146233087
StackTrace = StackTrace "at System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeConnection.ProcessResults()\r\nat System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeConnection.Open()\r\nat System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeConnection.Open()\r\nat UPCS.Data.StatusTable.RetrieveStatusRecords()\r\nat UCPS.Main.Main_Load()\r\nat System.Windows.Forms.Form.OnLoad()\r\nat System.Windows.Forms.Form._SetVisibleNotify()\r\nat System.Windows.Forms.Control.set_Visible()\r\nat System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run()\r\nat UCPS.Program.Main()\r\n" string
I would really appreciate any suggestions,
Thanks,
Ryan

I can connect to an empty database. I created my db through visual studio 2005. Are there any issues creating a db through the ide that would cause it to not work properly?
Thanks,

using gdi you can draw with transparency
l_Icon is a bitmap
ImageAttributes imageAttr = new ImageAttributes();
// set the transparency of the image to be shown using the selected pixel
imageAttr.SetColorKey(l_Icon.GetPixel(0, 0), l_Icon.GetPixel(0, 0));
// draw the custom graphic
g.DrawImage(l_Icon, dstRect, 0, 0, l_Icon.Width, l_Icon.Height, GraphicsUnit.Pixel, imageAttr);

Hi! I really hope somebody can help me.
I am doing a school project on vertical handoff. A Linux workstation and a Pocket Pc (windows mobile 2003) are communicating through WiFi and Bluetooth. The system should always choose the connection technology that is best under the current conditions, if for instance the bluetooth connenction is currently being used, and the connection is lost, the system should transparently switch to WiFi, instead and vice versa.
My goal is that the user or an application uses only one ip-connection, hence achieving trancparent handover between the two technologies.
Now let's say the Linux PC has the following adresses:
BT: 10.0.0.1
WiFi: 10.1.1.1
and the PPC has:
BT: 10.0.0.2
WiFi: 10.1.1.2
Then I what to create a virutal IP (VIP):
Linux PC: 10.2.2.1
PPC: 10.2.2.2
The VIP should then "forward" the communication to the active connection.
I can successfully create a virtual IP on the Linux PC, and then assign this to the currently active connection.
Can I anyhow do the same thing on the Pocket PC?
I would prefer to do this in C# but C++ is an option.
I hope you understand my problem, my english might be a bit rusty, but i will try to elaborate if needed. Thx in advance.

Hi,
While working with compact framework i stuck at following queries,If anyone can help me to solve this ,plz answer me.
1. Can we create a copy of database (.sdf files) of PPC to our desktop machine and accesse those files without connecting to PPC ?
2.Is there any unique number associated with the PPC device so that we can Identify it when ever it connected to our desktop?
If yes then how to get that number or is there any other way we can achieve this requirement.
3.i m using dataset for filling the comboboxes on Page Load event but it is throwing an exception .If i fill only one combo then the code works fine but if i m filling 2 combos at the same time ,it gives problem.What will be the problem ?

Ciao,
is there any managed class or unmanaged API I can call to know the available memory and disk space on a WinCE device (CF 1.0 )
Thanks in Advance
Ciao

Howdy,
I'm not sure about managed (.net) functions but the following unmanaged (C/C++) functions may be of interest to you:
Memory:
GlobalMemoryStatus
Disk:
GetDiskFreeSpaceEx
These maybe useful as well:
GetStoreInfo
CeGetVolumeInfo (CE 5.0 only)

What I make wrong!
I use Platform Builder 5.0 with CEPC
EHCI Host Controller
Here my call of the function:

ControlHeader.bRequest = 254;
ControlHeader.wValue = 0;
ControlHeader.wIndex = 0;

Hi,

Cant you just copy the file to your desktop??
But if you really want to work with the DB in your PPC, OK.
Im using VS.NET 2005.
1-Open VS
2-In your server explorer click on add new connection
3-For the data provider choose MSSQL Server Mobile Edition
4-On the datasource choose: "Active sync connected device"
5-Browse for the database or create a new one, if its password protected, write it in the password field
6-Test the connection
And you are done
But again...If I were you, i would create the DB on my desktop (same steps as above but instead of choosing "Active sync connected device" youd choose "My computer") and when you deploy the app to the PPC, you can automatically deploy the DB.sdf as well
Hope this helps you
By the way, this is not the best place to find answers to your questions about mobile devices, it looks like no one here pays atention to this part of codeproject.com Once i posted a problem i was having, and i never got an answer, actualy a had one (One of my own) since i found the answer somewhere else and decided to post it here

Hi
Platform: using VS2005 C# for WM5.0 base PDA
I am making one Bitmap button(owner draw). What i have done is i am
drawing
image on the button in onPaint() using e.drawimage ; I am also taking
care
that my bit map becomes transparent(all corners) . For the same i am
using
ImageAttributes attr = new ImageAttributes()
attr.SetColorKey(bmp.GetPixel(0,0), bmp.GetPixel(0,0));
In this case all the corners of my bitmap are becoming transparent and
showing same color(red color) which is my background color.(Here back
ground
is my application's main form which is having back color = red) .
Till this point every thing is ok .
My problem is " if i load an image on the main form " . In that case
above
bitmap buttons are still showing red color corner ...?? which is
correct only
in above case, but in this case when an image is loaded on the main
form ,Bit
map corners should display color of images which is loaded on the
form,but it
is still showing Red corner (which is the back color of main form.)
How can i get rid of this problem ..
Please help me ...

Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to know the name and make of the device the application is running on. I'm using compact framework 2.0 on windows mobile 5. I know we can get the OS version by calling Environment.OSVersion but that only gives WinCE and 5.xx.xx.
What I need is something like "Qtek", "HP", etc...
Is there a way to get that kind of info?
Thanks,
Talal

Call SystemParametersInfo with the SPI_GETOEMINFO flag. See here[^] for how to declare SystemParametersInfo (replace user32 with coredll ), and see WinUser.h (if I recall correctly) in the SDK to get the value of SPI_GETOEMINFO .

Hello all,
i have a quick question...
i need to create a "service-like" application in c# that will basiclly run in the background with no gui... like a console app that stays open untill the device has reset.
any ideas on how i could go accross this? its an app that will monitor the gps data and intercept sms messages that have commands etc...
i created a device app but the window will always show up (even though i tried this.hide() and this.visible = false in the onLoad)
Cheers!

Remove the call to Application.Run in the Main function. Instead, put your code in Main , in the same way that you would write a console application for the desktop.
Note that Windows CE (and hence Windows Mobile) only supports 32 processes, some of which are reserved for system processes. You should try not to create too many processes, so that the user isn't restricted too much (Windows CE will close processes that haven't been used recently, but only if they have a window, I believe). There is a model for loading code as a 'service', but this really requires writing your code as a native C++ DLL to a specific service model.
