if u have the code in a seperate file u will have to copy that file as well from app-code directory to the corresponding directory in the new project

if the control needs to be used in more than one project your better off writing it as a server control rather than a user control.

I have got the asmx file in the same location as the file that references it
So I have two projects with two asmx files in them, when I run the file its (.asmx) the xml works and displays the right data but when I run it in the cascading dropdownlist it doesnt display anything
But I can see it working in the other project
Anyone got any ideas?
I'm totally stuck!

The webservice doesn't need to be in each project. Use the SOA model and put the webservice in a central location so both projects, plus any others, can call it.
The service is only returning data which you are binding to a dropdown list correct?

Yeh basically the top level of the dropdownlist should display some data from the database. I can see it working in project 1, I can see it working in the xml of project 2, but it wont display in the cascading drop down, am I missing something? Why would it work when I visit the asmx file but not when I run the file with the cdd in it?what would be the reason for this?
thanks for thehelp

Well so are we since we haven't seen the same three pages of code that have been staring at.
Isolate the problem. Move the WebService out of each project and into one its own. Test it. Once its working, reference it in the other projects and go from there. Things you shouldn't need to be told if you're a professional developer.

thanks for the great answer.
Believe or not I have run the web service seperatly and it works.
You are def not a professional with answers like that.
What I was wondering is if I have to set or start the web service seperatly for each project
Maybe I should wait for a post from someone who will give me a useful answer..

Do debuggers not work in some parts of the world?

Why, because he needs to tell you how to debug a project? You have got to be kidding...

Good luck getting after that

Do this
ConfigurationSettings.GetConfig("CustomSettingsName")("keyname")

It's not working. I have the following piece of code in my web.config:
<configuration>
<system.web>
<membership>
<providers>
<minRequiredUpperAlphaCharacters="1" />
</providers>
</membership>
</system.web>
</configuration>
I have added a couple of my own properties of which I need to retrieve the values. How do I do this? I currently tried but it did not work:
IDictionary sampleTable = (IDictionary)ConfigurationSettings.GetConfig("system.web")("membership");
Please can someone help?
Thanks
Brendan

I want to stop the postback and node should be selected. After selecting the node, in "ADD" button click event i want to catch which node is selected. Anybody already worked with this type of requirement plz help me.

This link has several solutions: http://forums.asp.net/thread/469254.aspx
The best one I found was offered by persky. To use it, backup the treeview.htc file and then open it with notepad or some other text editor. Find the function "nodePlusMinusClick" and replace the entire function with the following code:
function nodePlusMinusClick()
{
if (g_bInteractive == false)
return;
var el = this.parentElement.treenode;
// 2 lines below commented out to disable postback on expand/collapse, extra lines added below for better functionality
// if (doNodePlusMinusClick(el) == true)
// fireQueuedEvents();
var index = getNodeIndex(el);
// if the selected or hovered node was one of the collapsed node's descendants then postback anyway
if (selectedNodeIndex.length > index.length && selectedNodeIndex.substr(0,index.length) == index)
{
if (doNodePlusMinusClick(el) == true)
fireQueuedEvents();
}
// otherwise just do the expand/collapse stuff
else
doNodePlusMinusClick(el);
}

there is another solution as well.
When you are adding the nodes do this
You can disable postbacks for expand/collapse events by Setting the property TreeNode.SelectAction = TreeNodeSelectAction.Expand. This will cause the treenodes to expand/collapse without a postback. If you want to enable postback for a particular node, set the property TreeNode.SelectAction = TreeNodeSelectAction.Select or TreeNodeSelectAction.SelectExpand.

Hi Kuricheti,
There is no AutoPostBack event in Treeview control. To get the selected text you can use OnSelectedNodeChanged property in .aspx file and point it to some function.
eg. <asp:treeview id="tvCategories" runat="server" enabletheming="true">
OnSelectedNodeChanged="SelectCategory">
to get the selected value write a function in C# and use TREEVIEWID.SelectedNode.Text
eg. tbCategory.Text = tvCategories.SelectedNode.Text;
Try it out.
