I am trying to add a repeater to a view (in multiview control) at runtime...
i coded as below

i have added this code to page_load,
The text that i am assigning is dummy here but i would be assingin string to it.. i did this to try if it works but it turns out that it works fine... it doesn't throw exceptions but still no data is displayed... can anyone help me with this problem

Hi,
I have a question, a kind of simple question but i don't know the exact answer so please help with providing one or 2 reasons...
i want to populate my asp.net page with data retrieved from database. i can bind the data in onloadcomplete method and can do the same in pageload method... Which of these two is preferred choice and why? i am gonna add controls at runtime... when should controls be added... plz provide help

Neither. PRerender is when you should read data from the db, so if any data is changed by an event, such as a button click, you read the data after the change.

wow...thanx... do you have any article on all these methods, coz i think i really need to learn about these methods... how about when one is dynamically attaching controls, where do we put that code...
I think i need to read such things but i've never read about such practices in any book or any article...

dynamically added controls need to be added before page load, and need to be added every time the same, if you want them to have viewstate.
There's a great book which explained all of this really well, called Essential ASP.NEt with examples in C# ( there's a VB.Net version also )

There uncheck the Disable the script debugging option.

Im trying to change the datatype of a column from a datatable in a dataset from smallmoney to money
At first when i made the dataset the column in the DB was smallmoney then i changed the column in the DB to money, but in my dataset i have made some relations, set some default values, added custom queries.... I wouldnt like to redrop the table, besides it would be good to know how to do it 
Ive already tryed changing directly the dataset.designer.vb file, finding all occurrences of smallmoney and replacing them with money, but if i make any change to the dataset designer, all code is rewritten and the columns are smallmoney again
The datatype of the money and smallmoney columns look the same in the dataset designer (decimal)
Where is the datatype of columns saved??
The column in DB is already money type

Hi All,
Its working fine locally and in QA environment but in the production we are having this issue.
We are calling a third party service from a our web application there we are getting this exception.
Now please have a look at below
1. Its happening for only few users (2 out of 100).
2. Not able to reproduce the issue locally.
Server is not having any information for this reuquest (No logs)
I have googled and found that there is problem in the request
But i am able to send the same data for which we got this exception in the server
Please help
Does it possible the request get this exception before reaching the server
If no then server must log this exception..
Please give some thoughts

You're actually making the call on the client machine, not the server ?
Can you visit the user, or use gotomeeting to reproduce the issue yourself ?

Actually we are calling ajax from client side to get few information required to send in the request and we are calling this request from the server. So in short we are not making a call from client direclty to the service.

I'm not sure, but I'd be doing some checks to see if the AJAX call is failing. I'd also be asking if other AJAX calls work on those machines. Is the AJAX call being made at all, because, if it is, then it's the same server that should be making the actual call, so why would that not work for a specific user ? It's a process of elimination, if it never works for 2 users and always works for the others, I think the AJAX call itself is getting lost or blocked.
You can use www.gotomeeting.com to set up a web meeting where you can control the users machine to try to diagnose the problem.

Ajax call is not getting failed because we are logging the data before calling the service and we see all the right data there.

Yes other calls are working one 1 specific call is getting failed

I can't do that, Customer service will handle that issue. Here we don't have any way to do that but can send a feedback regarding this.
All production issue we came to know from log files which are always 1 day late.

Well, if you have contact with the server, then you have a very strange issue indeed. Can you add a level of logging code to try to tell you move about what goes wrong, then ask the client to make a request to test it ? Can you put packet sniffers on the server to see what calls are made and what data is sent ?

At service server side which we are calling from our web application there is no any information for this request in the logs .
It seems that request is not going at the servert itself.

We have a fairly large project with a lot of roles and a lot of pages. For a time, we've been using location elements in the web.config to manage security, but it is starting to get unmaintainable.
What I would really like is some sort of way that I can authorize or deny a request based on the user's permissions that doesn't involve tampering with a config file. Ideally, this thing should get its data either from a database or by being hardcoded (for instance, it would be awesome if there was a nice fluent interface that I could use for this).
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'd build a permissions system into the database, which has the advantage that you can give admins the UI to change it. Create groups for your users and apply permissions to pages on the group level.

I guess what I'm stuck on is where to put the code that restricts the user from hitting certain pages. Would that go in global.asax somewhere or out on the page? Or should I make some sort of custom handler for it?

I would write a base class for all pages, and have a property specifying what group the page belongs to. Then I'd set the code in each page and check the user in the base class.
